NHL Network Celebrates the Festive Season with Plenty of Hockey

NHL Network has wall-to-wall hockey coverage this holiday season - the action-packed holiday hockey lineup includes IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship programming, NHL All Access: Becoming Sidney Crosby, Building a Champion, NCAA Everblades Classic and On The Glass: At the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals.

2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship
December 23 to January 5
On Friday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. ET, Gary Green hosts a one-hour special entitled World Junior Memories, sharing nearly three decades of World Junior Championship stories and experiences, followed by a simulcast of TSN's one-hour World Junior Hockey Championship Preview Show at 11:30 p.m. ET. NHL Network will televise encore broadcasts of the highly anticipated IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship from December 23 to January 5 (see below for broadcast schedule).

Throughout the World Junior playoffs (January 1 to 4), NHL Network will wrap up the day's action with On The Fly: World Junior Report. Hosted by Dan Pollard with commentary from former NHL goaltender Kay Whitmore, each 30-minute report features tournament playoff highlights, analysis and pre- and post-game reports. NHL Network's On The Fly: World Junior Report broadcast schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, Jan. 1 at 11:30 p.m. ET - features Quarter-final highlights, analysis, post-game reports and a preview of the Semifinals
  • Sunday, Jan. 2 at 11:30 p.m. ET - features Semifinal highlights, analysis and post-game reports
  • Monday, Jan. 3 at 10 p.m. ET - features a comprehensive preview of the Gold Medal Game
  • Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 11 p.m. ET - features Gold Medal Game highlights, analysis and a comprehensive post-game report

NHL All-Access: Becoming Sidney Crosby
Thursday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. ET
NHL Network goes beyond the glare of the cameras and into the life of 17-year-old Canadian hockey phenom Sidney Crosby with NHL All-Access: Becoming Sidney Crosby on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. ET. The one-hour show offers an in-depth look at Crosby's life both on and off the ice as he prepares for the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, where he is a lock to be picked first overall. The show also includes exclusive interviews with former first-round NHL Draft picks, as they provide an insider perspective on the pressures of being the most coveted player in the draft.

Building a Champion
Thursday, Dec. 30 at 9 p.m. ET
From the importance of the Draft to the European invasion of the NHL, NHL Network explores the numerous factors involved in building a Stanley Cup championship team with Building a Champion on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 9 p.m. ET. Produced in-house by NHL Network Productions, the 60-minute program is hosted by Dan Pollard and features analysts Harry Howell (former NHL goalie and current Director of Amateur Scouting for the Dallas Stars), Dave Reid (two-time Stanley Cup right winger) and Kay Whitmore.

NCAA Everblades Classic
December 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET
NHL Network will televise the popular NCAA Everblades Classic on December 28 and 29. The annual tournament features University of Maine vs. Saint Cloud State University on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. ET, Cornell University vs. Boston College on December 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET and the championship game between the winners of both match-ups on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

On The Glass: At the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals
December 25 to 31 at 10 p.m. ET
NHL Network presents On The Glass: At the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals from December 25 to 31 at 10 p.m. ET, offering a nightly look back at each game from last year's seven-game Stanley Cup Final between the Calgary Flames and Tampa Bay Lightning. All seven games feature never-before-seen footage from ice level using non-traditional hand-held cameras.
