Revisit Pearl Harbor In Color on the 63rd Anniversary of the Invasion
Posted on Wednesday, December 01, 2004 - 12:00 AM
Discovery Civilization

On Dec. 8, 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt revealed a level of unprecedented devastation to the American public after Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii: "Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."

On the 63rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Discovery Civilization Channel presents previously unseen footage in the one-hour documentary Pearl Harbor in Colour premiering Tues., Dec. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

The assault on Pearl Harbor was the most devastating moment in modern American military history -and for the Japanese, a stunning victory. Pearl Harbor in Colour shows this dual perspective with the remarkable reunion of Americas first POW - a young Japanese submarine captain - and his American captors. Listen to survivors describe the terror and confusion that plagued the civilians of the Hawaiian Islands in the days following the attack, as they waited in fear for a Japanese invasion. Finally, meet Leon Kolb, a young navy officer, who relives the day he was forced to abandon his ship, the Oklahoma, only to watch it capsize moments later, trapping hundreds of his naval colleagues in a steel tomb to die.

Journey back through time with Discovery Civilization to revel in humanity’s defining moments. Meet the people, cultures and ideas that have shaped our common past, and those that will dictate our future. Discovery Civilization is about learning where we came from and knowing where we can go.
