Posted on Tuesday, July 02, 2002 - 03:50 PM
Videotron

The two largest cable providers in Quebec, Vidéotron and COGECO, will be the first to launch

five new French-language European stations on their digital service. EuroNews, Paris Première, planete, Radio France Internationale and RFI Musique will be on the air starting Wednesday, June 19 at 6 p.m.

The arrival of these new channels was announced during a press conference this morning, in the presence of representatives of the new services and dignitaries from the French Embassy who supported the process to obtain authorization for broadcasting in Canada.

ABOUT THE NEW EUROPEAN STATIONS

EURONEWS

The leading news channel in Europe, EuroNews covers all world events from a European standpoint, in seven languages. EuroNews boasts an unmatched source of images from around the world and presents a wide array of features dedicated to current events, the economy, movies and sports - all in a 30-minute package. Launched in 1993, EuroNews was the first multilingual pan-European news channel and rapidly became the leading televised news service in Europe. Today, EuroNews reaches 124 million households in 76 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and North and South America. With up-to-the-minute, reliable and totally independent information, EuroNews offers a different perspective on world events.

AUDIO SERVICES

- Radio France Internationale

Radio France Internationale, born in 1975,

is, through its mission, a worldwide media link. - RFI Musique

RFI Musique is radio without borders, a cultural service of Radio France Internationale in French-speaking countries. Firmly anchored in the world scene, RFI promotes regional music, the performing arts and cultural or literary events with its regular programming, but also through the concerts and events it sponsors throughout the Americas and Africa as well as Europe.

Claude Sauvé, Vidéotron's Senior Marketing Director (cable distribution), is proud that these new channels are now available here, after successful negotiations. Not only will they enrich programming with original French-language content, but they will also help "illico" digital services continue their penetration of markets served by Vidéotron.

For her part, COGECO Communications and Programming Vice-President Hélène Dubuc explained that the number of customers switching from analog service to COGECO's digital service continues to grow and feels confident that the introduction of new, attractive French-language channels available with cable's digital TV will contribute to the steadily expanding customer base.

With the advent of EuroNews, Paris Première, planete, Radio France Internationale and RFI Musique, Vidéotron's and COGECO's programming grids now number 21 French-language specialty services. The FIVE NEW CHANNELS, which can

be tuned in respectively on positions 170, 171, 172, 551 and 552 with Vidéotron and 200, 201, 202, 980 and 981 with COGECO WILL BE AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE to digital TV customers FOR THREE MONTHS, i.e. until September 19.
