For King and Country - Part of History Television’s A Week of Remembrance
November 8 to 11 at 9 p.m. ET
History Television honours the Canadian men and women who served in the Second World War with a special week of Remembrance Day programming. A Week of Remembrance features the broadcast premiere of the original six-part series For King and Country beginning Monday, November 8 at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT.
From Breakthrough Entertainment, For King and County follows charismatic historian Norm Christie as he journeys across the globe, rediscovering the forgotten battlegrounds where Canadian soldiers bravely fought during the Second World War. From infamous battles such as D-Day and the Battle of Britain to lesser-known campaigns in Italy, Hong Kong and the Battle for the Atlantic, Christie follows the arc of the Canadian troops from the point of view of ordinary soldiers. Several prominent veterans tell their stories in their own words as they join Christie on an emotional return to the battlegrounds and gravesites of their fallen comrades.
“With his passion and enthusiasm for Canadian military history, Norm Christie has a unique ability to personalize the war in a way that all Canadians can relate to,” says John Gill, Senior Vice President of Programming Alliance Atlantis Factual and BBC Networks. “For King and Country pays tribute to the heroism of the ‘ordinary soldier’ and brings well-deserved attention to some of the momentous accomplishments made by Canadians during the war.”
The veterans who share the stories of their life-and-death struggles during the Second World War include: fighter pilot Robert Barton (Okanagan Valley, BC), seaman Peter ***** (Ottawa, on), ambulance driver Alfred Babin (London, on), rifleman Stan Scislowski (Windsor, on), and Company Commander Lockie Fulton (Victoria, BC).
