Movie Central and The Movie Network premiere the HBO Film The Life and Death of Peter Sellers on December 5

TMN - The Movie Network

Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) announced the much-anticipated exclusive national premiere of the HBO Original Film, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. A critical hit at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the star-studded biopic skips theatres and premieres Sunday, December 5 at 8 p.m. MT and 9 p.m. ET on pay-TV, day-and-date with HBO.

Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush (Shine, Quills) delivers a tour de force performance in this imaginative, eye-opening look at charismatic British actor Peter Sellers, whose brilliant, idiosyncratic gift for mimicry and invention catapulted him to international cultural icon status. The film contrasts Sellers' uncanny ability to adopt the personalities of others with his tortured inability to embrace a personality of his own. The Life and Death of Peter Sellers examines the actor's rise to fame - from his start at BBC Radio to his success in more than 70 movies, including the series of Pink Panther hits and Dr. Strangelove - and his private defeats, including his tempestuous relationships with the women in his life and his erratic self-destructive behaviour.

The film features a superb supporting cast led by fellow Oscar-winner Charlize Theron (Monster) as Sellers' second wife Britt Ekland; Oscar nominee Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie) as Sellers' first wife Anne; Emmy winner John Lithgow (3rd Rock from the Sun) as director Blake Edwards; Stanley Tucci (Road to Perdition) as director Stanley Kubrick; Stephen Fry (Gosford Park) as Sellers' fortuneteller; Sonia Aquino (L'Italiano) as actress Sophia Loren; and Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) as Peg Sellers, the actor's domineering and overly possessive mother. The Life and Death of Peter Sellers is directed by Stephen Hopkins (The Ghost and the Darkness) and based on the book by Roger Lewis.

Encore presentations of The Life and Death of Peter Sellers can be seen on:

Movie Central - Saturday, December 11 at 6 p.m. MT and Friday, December 17 at 9:30 p.m. MT
The Movie Network - Tuesday, December 7 at 8 p.m. ET and Thursday, December 23 at 9 p.m. ET
