Programming highlights for 2004-2005.
SCREAM is Canada's only specialty television service dedicated to the thriller, suspense and horror genres. SCREAM’s new “more movies” schedule is loaded with blockbusters, classics, cult favourites and international gems – many of these exclusive to SCREAM.
SCREAM’s weekly schedule goes well beyond monsters and mayhem to provide an exceptionally
eclectic range of programming. The popular Thriller Thursdays return with back-to-back thrillers
every Thursday night; also returning is Exhumed, which gives viewers a daily dose of film
classics and cult favourites. New to SCREAM’s fall schedule is Suspense Saturdays, featuring
two great suspense films every Saturday night.
Last fall, SCREAM ranked #1 among digital specialty networks. With a killer format (now being
duplicated in the U.S.) and a schedule of movies so strong it’s scary, SCREAM is once again
poised to dominate the ratings this fall.
Some of the movies on SCREAM this fall include:
Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion
Gian Maria Volonté plays a charismatic, psychopathic police chief with strong leftist ideals in this taut, clever Italian film that’s part thriller, part black comedy. After he cuts the throat of his masochistic mistress, the chief deliberately leaves clues, hoping to confirm his reputation as a “citizen above suspicion” and, at the same time, test the integrity of the fascist system he supports. Winner of the 1971 Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film, the 1970 Grand Prize of Jury at Cannes, and the 1971 Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Motion Picture, this film has been praised as “…an elegant thriller,” (LA Weekly) and “A provocative political thriller that is as troubling today as when it came out in 1970. Maybe more so.” (Los Angeles Times)
Manhunter
With a serial killer on the loose, retired FBI agent Will Graham (William L. Petersen) returns to duty, enlisting the help of the infamous and deranged serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Brian Cox) to help him get inside the mind of a psychopath. Based on the Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon (prequel to The
Silence Of The Lambs), Manhunter is a work of gripping suspense and psychological horror. Praised as “… the best Hannibal Lecter movie and one of the greatest suspense movies ever made,” (salon.com) and a “psychologically slippery, contemplative and disturbing thriller," (filmcritic.com). Manhunter also features Joan Allen and Dennis Farina.
Cliffhanger
Sylvester Stallone plays a professional mountain climber and rescue expert, still grappling with the accidental death of his friend on the mountain the year before. When he is asked to return to the same mountain range and rescue a group of 'stranded' people, he unwittingly gets caught up in a $100 million criminal plot, masterminded by a group of ruthless skyjackers. Also stars John
Lithgow.
The Bedford Incident
Sidney Poitier plays a reporter given permission to interview the captain of the American destroyer USS Bedford during a routine patrol at the peak of Cold War tensions. When the destroyer’s captain
(Richard Widmark) discovers a Soviet submarine nearby, the reporter soon finds himself in the middle of a deadly game of cat-andmouse in the frigid North Atlantic. Also stars James MacArthur, Martin Balsam and Wally Cox.
