New York Real Estate: Where The Stakes And Price Tags Are As High As the Skycrapers
Posted on Saturday, August 21, 2010 - 06:25 PM
HGTV

Behind every property up for sale is a fascinating story. HGTV is giving viewers a rare glimpse inside the high-stakes world of buying and selling luxury Manhattan properties in the new series Selling New York. This series explores tales of lavish residential properties and the people who buy and sell them. The bidding begins Wednesday September 8 at 9pm ET/PT.

“Selling New York explores the extreme and fascinating lengths New York City real estate agents go to, to sell a property,” said says Emily Morgan, Vice President of Content for HGTV, Food Network and DIY Network. “It’s a behind-the-scenes series unlike anything HGTV has aired before and we’re extremely excited to bring viewers an insider’s look at the opulent lifestyle and jaw-dropping price tags of those who call Tribeca, Soho and the Upper East Side home.”

In each episode cameras follow a colourful group of assertive and razor-sharp brokers from two upscale Manhattan based boutique real estate firms: Core Group NYC and Gumley Haft Kleier. Gumley Haft Kleier is a family business headed up by Michelle Kleier. Her partners include her husband, Ian, and their daughters, Samantha Kleier Forbes, Sabrina Kleier Morgenstern, and son-in-law Rob Morgenstern. Selling multimillion-dollar apartments to an older Upper East Side clientele is how the family has made their mark in the real estate world. Core is the younger, hipper firm. Led by the charming but intense Shaun Osher, Core caters to young professionals who are prepared to pay more than $2 million for a parking spot, storage space and doorman.

These realtors do whatever it takes to close a deal. From scheduling photo shoots and last-minute open houses to pampering a potential buyer with front row tickets to New York Fashion Week and planning lavish cocktail parties at new property listings. High-end New York real estate is a cut-throat industry where a broker’s job never stops and the wheeling and dealing takes place 24 hours a day. In New York a real estate agent is required to be a personal shopper, dog-walker, therapist and more.
