Fall 2004 Highlights: CBC Newsworld
Posted on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 08:20 PM
CBC Newsworld

The upcoming fall season marks the 15th anniversary of the foundation of this channel and they have prepared a few changes to mark this event.

Amongst the changes:

  • A new flagship interview program weeknights at 8 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific). It’s in development for launch this winter; details about the show's host and format will be released in the coming months.
  • A new weekly foreign affairs program, CBC News: Correspondent, featuring hour-long documentaries from CBC correspondents as well as independent producers. Its mandate will be to better serve the demands of our viewers for more international reportage. This new series will also showcase some of the best international reporting from our colleagues at other major public broadcasters such as the BBC and Australia's ABC.
  • A new short-run interview series called CBC News: Face to Face, featuring in-depth and hard-hitting interviews by some of our most experienced correspondents and interviewers. The first in this series will see Neil MacDonald go 'face to face' with six interview subjects in the weeks leading up to the US presidential election.
  • The return of our documentary festival, Cinema Real, which was launched last October to mark 10 years of CBC Newsworld's support for independent documentary makers in Canada. This year will see a record number of new Canadian documentaries broadcast by CBC Newsworld.
  • CBC News: Morning will be expanding to seven nights a week.
  • They will be launching a new weekly series based in Montreal called Au Courant. This show will aim to explore and explain the stories and issues that are dominating conversations in Francophone Canada.
