Bell ExpressVu, CBC Sports and the NHL launch HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS
Posted on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 - 10:44 AM
Bell TV (ExpressVu)

Bell ExpressVu, CBC Sports and the NHL today
launched HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS, Canada's first interactive television
service of its kind for fans who want to get the most out of their hockey
viewing experience - all from the comfort of their home. The new service
(available across Canada on channel 276 exclusively to Bell ExpressVu
subscribers with interactive receivers) offers alternate camera angles and
video feeds so that fans never miss a moment of the action.

For the duration of the 2003-2004 NHL season, HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS
will be offered each Saturday as an enhanced television service for the
network's NHL doubleheader, carried each week on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
The service offers viewers access to unique features, including:
- Alternate-Cam - Check out an alternate camera angle with a rink-wide
view and action from around the net.
- Player-Cam - Follow isolated coverage of key players.
- "Second Look" Cam - Enjoy the action on a 45-second delay to view
the play one more time.
- Highlights - Watch continuous highlights from the game.
- Stats - View up-to-the-minute in-game statistics, team information
and game notes.
- Menu - Watch the game on the main screen, together with all the
other alternative video feeds and camera angles.
"Welcome to the future of television, and the most interactive way to
experience the fastest game on the planet - from the comfort of your home,"
said Tim McGee, president of Bell ExpressVu. "Once again, Bell ExpressVu is
leading the way with an innovative television service, offering consumers
across the country 100 per cent digital quality TV, and the opportunity to
watch hockey like never before."
"The tradition of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada leads the way for hockey
coverage," explained Joel Darling, executive producer of Hockey Night in
Canada. "Adding unique interactive functionality to the TV viewing experience
allows fans at home to experience the game like never before."
"The NHL is proud to have its partners, Bell ExpressVu and CBC, offer
hockey fans another exciting way to enjoy the game," stated Doug Perlman, NHL
Senior Vice-President of TV and Media Ventures. "Much like the recent HDTV
broadcast of the Heritage Classic, our partners continue to find new and
innovative methods of broadcasting NHL games, making CBC's Hockey Night in
Canada more popular than ever in its 52nd season."
Customers simply use their remote control to access HOCKEY NIGHT IN
CANADA PLUS - to browse alternate camera angles, get a second look at the
action, watch continuous highlights or see the on-ice view of a key player.
For example, while watching a hockey game, viewers can see an alternate angle
of the action, view stats or review a spectacular play.
Experience HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS for the first time on Dec. 20,
when CBC's Hockey Night in Canada airs Montreal vs. Toronto at 7 p.m. ET, and
Vancouver vs. Edmonton at 10 p.m. ET.
HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS will be available to Bell ExpressVu customers
with either a 3100, 5100 or 5800 interactive receiver. A free preview period
for the service will include games on Dec. 20 and 27, and Jan. 3 and 10; after
which time HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA PLUS will be presented as a subscription
offering and on a pay-per-view basis.
