CBC News Network Juggles Primetime Schedule

CBC News Network today announced schedule changes to its primetime programming. The following changes come into effect Monday, March 1 on Canada’s number one news network:

CBC NEWS NOW with Carole MacNeil is extended by 30 minutes, running from 2 to 5 p.m. ET. During Carole MacNeil’s broadcast, senior business correspondent for CBC News Amanda Lang will provide an update at 4:30 p.m. ET, recapping the top business stories of the day. POWER & POLITICS with Evan Solomon continues to air in the 5 to 7 p.m. ET timeslot. The popular THE LANG & O’LEARY EXCHANGE adds another 30 minutes of business news and moves to 7 to 8 p.m. ET, followed by CONNECT with Mark Kelley from 8 to 9 p.m. ET. The schedule for THE NATIONAL remains the same and broadcasts at 9 and 11 p.m. ET/PT on CBC News Network, and at 10 p.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC-TV.

In addition, Reshmi Nair, who currently anchors the breaking news desk on CBC News Network’s CONNECT with Mark Kelley, will expand her role and anchor the breaking news desk from 5 to 9 p.m. ET, Monday – Friday.

“Viewer feedback to the new CBC News Network has been extremely positive,” said Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief, CBC News. “These changes will build on this momentum.”

CBC NEWS NETWORK SCHEDULE BEGINNING MARCH 1, 2010:

Monday – Friday
2 – 5 p.m. ET: CBC News Now with Carole MacNeil
5 – 7 p.m. ET: Power & Politics with Evan Solomon
7 – 8 p.m. ET: The Lang & O’Leary Exchange
8 – 9 p.m. ET: Connect with Mark Kelley

CBC News The National with Peter Mansbridge will air as follow:
Monday to Saturday @ 9 and 11p.m. ET
Sundays at 9 p.m. ET
