REMEMBERANCE DAY RELATED MOVIES:
Battle of the Bulge
Wednesday, November 11 at 8 p.m. PT on Encore Avenue.
It’s 1944, the final months of the Second World War and the German’s are sputtering. American officer, Lt. Col. Kiley (Henry Fonda) is certain that the strategically brilliant German officer Col. Hessler (Robert Shaw) is planning an attack on the Allied forces in the Ardenne forest. He tries to alert his superior officers of the up-coming attack, but no one is convinced. Hessler’s plan is to overtake the Allied fuel depots and with a fleet of tanks it should be simple. Based on the actual Battle of the Bulge the film includes vignettes from the real battle
The Dirty Dozen
Wednesday, November 11 at 10:30 on Encore Avenue.
Based on the novel by E.M. Nathanson, The Dirty Dozen is set in war-torn England and France during the Second World War. Twelve American soldiers convicted of capital offense, who refuse to bath or shave until given proper treatment (hence the dirty dozen), are selected to infiltrate a château in Brittany used as a retreat for high-ranking Nazi officers. The operation is considered a suicide mission, but the group of convicts, gangsters and psychopaths eventually grow into a team. Some find redemption through the mission, while others find ruin. The Dirty Dozen airs Wednesday, November 11 at 10:30 on Encore Avenue.
REMEMBRANCE DAY MARATHON ON THE MOVIE NETWORK
Wednesday, November 11 beginning at 4:45 p.m.
The Movie Network commemorates Remembrance Day on November 11, 2009 with three war-themed films. The stunt begins at 4:45 p.m. with Stop-Loss, the dramatic story about a veteran U.S. soldier who is unexpectedly asked to return to Iraq after just coming back from a tour of duty. The film is followed by the Iraq war drama In The Valley of Elah starring Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron at 6:45 p.m., and concludes at 9 p.m. with Paul Gross’ epic war drama Passchendaele.
