The beloved Mollie Sugden (best known as Betty Slocombe on the long-running Are You Being Served?) stars here as Nora Powers, the officious head of personnel at a prestigious advertising agency. Nora's personal and professional lives collide unhappily when her husband George (played by Sugden's real-life husband, William Moore) joins the company as chief doorman. Tonight: Nora is bitterly ashamed of George's new position with the firm - but can she hide from the girls in the typing pool forever?

Drama Series - McLeod's Daughters: "Into the Valley of the Shadow"

Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici (The Lost Tomb of Jesus) explores the mysteries of Biblical archaeology in this irreverent documentary series. Tonight: In the Old Testament, King Solomon is the son of David, the builder of the First Temple in Jerusalem, and a figure of magisterial wisdom. But scholars disagree about whether he really existed. In this episode, the Naked Archaeologist attempts to separate fact from fiction.

Movie - Hope and Glory

This semi-autobiographical 1987 feature from writer-director John Boorman is the story of one family's experiences during the London blitz, as seen through the eyes of a grade-school boy, played by Sebastian Rice-Edwards.

The Best of British Comedy - Hallelujah

British stage and screen legend Thora Hird stars as Emily Ridley, a captain in the Salvation Army for more than 40 years. When her superiors decide it's time for Captain Emily to retire, she demands one more chance to carry on her war with the Devil. Reluctantly, they send her off to save souls in the north of England - and there, in the picturesque small towns of Yorkshire, this tireless Christian foot soldier launches a misguided assault upon the nests of sin that she believes must lurk behind the lace curtains.

Retro TV Classic - Quantum Leap: "A Leap for Lisa"

This classic sci-fi drama stars Scott Bakula (The Informant!) as Sam Beckett, a scientist trapped in the past by a time travel experiment gone wrong. Documentary - Great Souls: Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel survived Auschwitz and went on to become a successful author and human rights activist. His 1958 memoir Night remains one of the most important books ever written about the Holocaust. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, Wiesel has made it his mission to remind the world of past horrors so that they may never repeat themselves, and to speak out on behalf of victims of violence and injustice all over the world. This hour-long documentary, hosted by former Time Magazine correspondent David Aikman, looks at his life and times.

Documentary - Charging the Rhino

On a Sunday afternoon in June 1941, Simcha Jacobovici's father Joseph and most of his family were among thousands of Jews gunned down by Romanian soldiers, police and fascists. Joseph survived, but lived the rest of his life with a bullet lodged next to his heart - a grim reminder of that day. This Gemini Award-nominated documentary by filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici (The Naked Archaeologist) tells the forgotten story of what happened to Joseph, to his family, and to the Jewish people of Romania.

Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories Of The Kindertransport

In the months prior to World War Two, Great Britain opened its doors to more than 10,000 Jewish and other children from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. They were taken into foster homes and hostels in Britain, expecting eventually to be reunited with their parents. Most never saw their families again. This Oscar-winning documentary, narrated by Dame Judi Dench chronicles this extraordinary rescue mission and its impact on the lives of the children.

The Best of British Comedy - One Foot in the Grave

Documentary - The Trench

World War One was a new kind of war: the first global conflict of the industrial age. In this BBC documentary, 24 British volunteers are recruited to spend two weeks in a meticulously re-created trench system in northern France, reliving the wartime experiences of the 10th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment. It is a physically and emotionally taxing experience for these young men, as they endure the harsh realities of trench warfare, and discover for themselves the true measure of the sacrifice made by those who fought and died in Europe 90 years ago.

Documentary - Hana's Suitcase: An Odyssey of Hope

At Tokyo's Holocaust Education Resource Centre, the children flocked to see it: a small, empty suitcase bearing a girl's name. It belonged to Hana Brady, a 13-year-old girl who died at Auschwitz in 1944. Determined to learn more about its owner, the Centre's curator, Fumiko Ishioka, began a search that would take her around the world. This award-winning documentary traces her journey, which led finally to Toronto, and to an unexpected discovery.

Movie - Charlotte Gray
9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
Cate Blanchett stars as a British spy who becomes entangled in a wartime love triangle in this 2001 adaptation of the Sebastian Faulks bestseller. The film tells the story of a young nurse (Blanchett) who falls for a British airman (Rupert Penry-Jones) during the London Blitz. When he goes missing over French territory, she joins the British secret service and volunteers to parachute into France to work with the Resistance. There, she is drawn to a Resistance leader played by Billy Crudup (Watchmen).

Movie - Sergeant York
Midnight ET / 9 p.m. PT
Gary Cooper gives an Oscar-winning performance in this 1941 biography of World War One hero Alvin York. An impoverished, hard-drinking reprobate from Tennessee, York turned his life around after becoming a Christian. Drafted to serve in the Great War, he was at first reluctant to fight, insisting that his religious beliefs forbade him to kill. But he would eventually prove his mettle on the battlefield. Howard Hawks directed, from a script co-written by John Huston.


Friday, Nov. 13

The Best of British Comedy - Father Ted

God must really hate the parishioners of Craggy Island. Why else would He send them the scheming Father Ted (played by the late, great Dermot Morgan) and his colleagues, dim-witted Father Dougal (Ardal O'Hanlon) and demented Father Jack (Frank Kelly)? Voted one of the best Britcoms of all time, the irreverent, award-winning Father Ted is sinfully funny. Tonight: It's time for the priests' annual celebrity lookalike competition, and Ted is determined to defeat his arch-nemesis, Father Dick Byrne.
