Driven By Vision, a documentary series produced for VisionTV, earned a major prize at last night's Gemini Awards Industry Gala in Toronto.

Michael McNamara received the Gemini Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Series, honouring his work on the show's season two premiere episode, "Of Castles, Kings and Jesters."

Driven By Vision is a documentary series about eccentric visionaries and "outsider artists" who create unusual handmade monuments and shrines. It was produced for VisionTV by Toronto-based Markham Street Films Inc.

The show's second season premiered on VisionTV in March 2009. Judy Holm and Michael McNamara were the producers. Joan Jenkinson was the Executive Producer for VisionTV.

Said Bill Roberts, President and CEO of VisionTV's parent company S-VOX: "We are immensely proud of our association with the team at Markham Street Films, and delighted to see Michael and Judy earn well-deserved recognition for their exceptional work on Driven By Vision."

Mr. Roberts noted that Joan Jenkinson, S-VOX's Director of Independent Production, and Mark Prasuhn, its Chief Content Officer and Chief Operating Officer, had tirelessly championed the series. "It is gratifying that their commitment to supporting independent Canadian production and independent creative voices has been duly rewarded," he said.

VisionTV programs have also received three other nominations for the 24th Annual Gemini Awards, which honour the best in Canadian English-language television.

SOUL, an original drama series, has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role (Mpho Koaho) and Best Writing (Floyd Kane).

The documentary anthology series I Prophesy: The Future Revealed has earned a nomination in the category of Best Cross Platform Project for its online extension, created by Toronto-based interactive media production company The Secret Location (www.thesecretlocation.com).
