Now is the time for the Montreal Expos to start working out TV deals for 2004

Editorial

The 2003 MLB season is officially over and it is now time for MLB clubs to start preparing for next year. This means getting players signed, planning the marketing scheme for next year, and getting a TV deal done.

The Montreal Expos must start earlier than the other clubs at attempting to get a TV deal done, knowing the hard time RDS gives them. The Expos need the revenue money, and the fans need to keep up to date. Right now Expos fans in Montreal got in the teens for Televised games on RDS, often having to rely on the opponents TV station to be able to watch. But they only play Toronto six times a year.

So this means that Canadians have to subscribe to MLB Extra Innings if they wanted to see the majority of their team's games.

But what about local stations? People in Montreal shouldn't have to pay big bucks for only a portion of games they would watch. This means RDS should have a lot of games, TQS should carry a share, TVA should have a few, as should SRC/CBC, and CFCF.

For viewers outside Quebec, the Expos should have 30 or so games on Sportsnet East and/or TSN.

Sportsnet should divide it's TV zones better:
-Sportsnet Pacific: Mariners
-Sportsnet West: Twins
-Sportsnet Ontario: Jays
-Sportsnet East: Expos

Expos fans need to see games to come out to the park! Having televised games is already the best marketing aside from a winning team.
