| No "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for Montreal |

If you've been watching Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show religiously then, chances are, you don't live in Montreal. As of this fall, basic cable and even extended-basic cable viewers in most of Quebec have found themselves deprived of the comedian's antics.
WVNY-22, the Vermont ABC affiliate available on Videotron, has decided to replace Jimmy Kimmel with paid-programming. To make matters worse, CHUM owns the Canadian Rights to Kimmel and CHUM doesn't run any television stations in Quebec. So only the Montrealers who subscribe to digital or satellite services will get to see his show.
But the situation wasn't much better last season when they carried only the first half of the hour-long talk show, as many irate viewers often learned the hard way. WVNY argued that they had no choice because they already gave the 12:35 AM time-slot to the infomercial people. They would carry Kimmel only if ABC promised to provide a break halfway through the show. According to the Vermont station, the network never fully delivered on that request and they lost money because their infomercials didn't start on time. So Kimmel had to go.
It should be noted that WVNY has been in the news recently for its financial problems. This month, the struggling ABC affiliate also cancelled its local newscasts, laying-off its 25 member staff. Syndicated reruns of The Simpsons and Frasier now act as lead-ins for World News Tonight and Nightline respectively.
Meanwhile Montrealers are getting used to being deprived of Jimmy Kimmel. His other show "The Man Show" was carried by the Comedy Network, which is also not available in Montreal.
