BFFs or Worst Enemies? Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter Banter and Bicker in MICHAEL & MICHAEL HAVE ISSUES, Premiering October 21, on The Comedy Network
Posted on Saturday, October 10, 2009 - 02:12 PM
Comedy Network

After more than 20 years of comedic collaborations, Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter finally get to star in their own show together. There’s just one problem with this comedic marriage: They are their own worst enemies. Michael & Michael Have Issues premieres Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on The Comedy Network. In this 30-minute show-within-a-show series, Michael and Michael dish out the laughs along with their dirty laundry. And speaking of dirty laundry, following MICHAEL AND MICHAEL HAVE ISSUES Reno’s “finest” try to handle their own set of sticky situations in RENO 911! at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Michael & Michael Have Issues offers a new twist on narrative and sketch comedy. Michael & Michael star in their own fictitious sketch show. In between sketches, viewers go behind-the-scenes to get a first-hand look at the two misguided stars wrestle with their pride in their ongoing battle of “oneupsmanship.” Their war of wits takes off in the first episode as Michael and Michael fight for the attention of an intern who is writing an article about them for his high school newspaper. Hilarity ensues as Michael and Michael try to outperform each other at a college stand-up gig, play cupid with embarrassing results, and buy weed for their boss. And oh yeah, at some point during the popularity tug o’ war, Michael Ian Black goes on a mission to find out who threw dog poo at his door.

Viewers having a hard time deciding who’s the better Michael can review their high jinks on demand at thecomedynetwork.ca. Fans can also check out video exclusives from the not-so-dynamic duo and test their smarts with a Michael & Michael Have Issues word game!

Michael Ian Black's career began with The State, a sketch comedy troupe he co-founded at NYU in 1988. Since then he’s been featured in dozens of television series and movies. In television, Black starred in several Comedy Central series including STELLA and REALITY BITES BACK. For film, Black wrote and directed Wedding Daze, and scripted Run Fat Boy Run. His stand-up CD, I Am a Wonderful Man, was released in 2007 and his book of humourous essays, My Custom Van: And 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays That Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face hit the shelves in 2008. Today, he simply claims to be “very famous.”

Michael Showalter has done a bunch of things with Michael Ian Black including The State, and STELLA. He co-wrote, co-produced and starred in the cult comedy feature film Wet Hot American Summer –also starring Black - and starred in the romantic comedy, The Baxter, with Michelle Williams and Elizabeth Banks. Showalter has toured the country performing stand-up comedy and released a comedy record, Sandwiches & Cats in 2007. He also has a popular web series on collegehumor.com called The Michael Showalter Showalter. Today, Showalter claims to be “even more famous.”
