Bell ExpressVu dishes out more local programming to customers
Posted on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 - 09:14 AM
Bell TV (ExpressVu)

Bell ExpressVu announced today that 18 local
stations from across the country, including eight French-language stations, will be added to its digital television service.

Starting this week, 10 new local channels from Calgary (A-Channel), Chicoutimi (TVA, TQS), Peterborough (CBC), Sherbrooke (TVA, SRC and TQS), Toronto (Toronto 1), Victoria (New VI) and Winnipeg (A-Channel), will be added at no extra charge, to the basic programming packages. The remaining eight stations, which serve the areas surrounding Kamloops (CBC), Kenora (CTV), Prince George (CBC), Rivière-du-Loup (TVA, TQS), Rouyn-Noranda (TVA) and Thunder Bay (CBC, CTV), will be added on October 15, 2003.

"Our customers want the option of simply watching their own local television stations or tuning into local programming from other provinces," said Tim McGee, President of Bell ExpressVu. "Satisfying our viewing audience's demand for a diversified programming lineup, includes making local programming available. We've been busy this year expanding and improving our service, including the introduction of 76 new channels to our line-up."

This announcement is the result of a joint initiative with the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, which represents Canada's various private broadcasters and is aimed at offering greater choice to consumers in terms of local content in an increasingly competitive market.

Bell ExpressVu currently offers more than 40 local stations across the country. "Today's announcement is part of our commitment to regional broadcasting," added Mr. McGee. "We provide our customers with networks, local, specialty and multicultural programming, as well as interactive services, 100% digital or high-definition quality and flexible subscription packages designed to satisfy the most varied of needs."
