CTV's Programming Highlights, September 21 - 30

CTV is sweeping viewers off their feet with the official start of the fall television season and the return of 14 prime-time sensations throughout the end of September. With the long-awaited season premieres of GREY’S ANATOMY, CSI, THE MENTALIST and DANCING WITH THE STARS, among many more, the next two weeks are jam-packed full of hot returns and sizzling all-new episodes.

Programming highlights for September 21 – 30 on CTV include:



* Countdown the greatest moments in Olympic Winter Games history with the TOP 10 CANADIAN OLYMPIC WINTER MOMENTS (Sept. 19)
* Sixteen new couples storm the dance floor on the two-hour season premiere of DANCING WITH THE STARS (Sept. 21)
* Delko’s life is on the line in the season premiere of CSI: MIAMI (Sept. 21)

Thursday, September 17

8 p.m. – THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – “Night of the Comet” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
As Mystic Falls prepares for a festival to celebrate the passing of a comet, Vicki (Kayla Ewell) is in the hospital recovering from the attack she can barely remember. Stefan (Paul Wesley) goes to the hospital and tries to use his abilities to make sure Vicki doesn't remember what really happened, but his attempt is cut short when Vicki's brother Matt (Zach Roerig) arrives. At a parent/teacher conference, Mr. Tanner (guest star Canadian Benjamin Ayres, SMALLVILLE) makes Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) feel that she is failing as a surrogate parent, especially when it comes to Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). Elena (Nina Dobrev) decides to go to the Salvatore house to talk to Stefan, but finds his charming brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) instead.

Friday, September 18

10 p.m. – DEFYING GRAVITY – “Eve Ate the Apple” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
Entranced by a haunting song, the Antares crew is inexorably drawn to storage Pod 4 where the otherworldly Beta object revolves in an astonishing fractal dance. In Mission Control, Ajay (Zahf Paroo) and Arnel (William Vaughan) also see the strange object for the first time as Goss (Andrew Airlie) announces that they are now all sworn to secrecy about the real nature of the space mission.

Saturday, September 19

7 p.m. – TOP 10 CANADIAN OLYMPIC WINTER MOMENTS – SPECIAL PRESENTATION
The TOP 10 CANADIAN OLYMPIC WINTER MOMENTS, presented by the Royal Canadian Mint, celebrates the rich and storied history of the Olympic Games. Hosted in English by Brian Williams and in French by Claude Mailhot, this special counts down the Top 10 moments (10 through 1), as voted on earlier this year by fans across the country. The show also includes a roster of Canadian celebrities who recall their favourite moments, including golfer Mike Weir, astronaut Julie Payette, actresses Kim Cattrall and Karine Vanasse, soprano Measha Brueggergosman, and musicians Chuck Comeau, Jim Cuddy and Ed Robertson. The top three moments will be featured on 25-cent coins produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and will enter into circulation over the coming months leading up to Vancouver 2010. The TOP 10 CANADIAN OLYMPIC WINTER MOMENTS will also air at 8 p.m. ET on V.

Sunday, September 20
7 p.m. – TWO AND A HALF MEN – “Thank God for Scoliosis” – EMMY® -NOMINATED SERIES – ENCORE BROADCAST
In this episode of the Emmy-nominated series Charlie (Charlie Sheen) and Jake (Angus T. Jones) fight for the affections of a waitress, while Alan (Jon Cryer) fights sexual tension with his receptionist.

7:30 p.m. – THE BIG BANG THEORY – “The Maternal Capacitance” – ENCORE BROADCAST OF EMMY® -NOMINATED EPISODE
In a special encore broadcast of the Emmy-nominated episode, a disastrous visit from Mrs. Hofstadter (Christine Baranski, UGLY BETTY) brings Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) closer together.

8 p.m. – 61ST PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS
Broadcasted live from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles, and hosted by Neil Patrick Harris (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER), this year’s star-studded awards ceremony recognizes the best in prime-time television. This year’s red-hot presenters list includes Patricia Arquette (MEDIUM), Rob Lowe (BROTHERS & SISTERS), Tracy Morgan (30 ROCK) and Hayden Panettiere (HEROES) to name just a few.

Monday, September 21

8 p.m. – DANCING WITH THE STARS – TWO-HOUR SEASON PREMIERE
DANCING WITH THE STARS kicks off Season 9 with a two-hour premiere, introducing 16 brand-new contestants to the dance floor. This season promises to be the most dramatic season yet with three consecutive double eliminations in the middle stages of the competition and the return of the Pro Dancer Competition, where world class professional dancers have the opportunity to compete live on the results show for a guaranteed spot on next season’s show. Contestants dancing for the judges’ votes this season are Aaron Carter, Natalie Coughlin, Mark Dacascos, Tom Delay, Macy Gray, Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart, Kathy Ireland, Michael Irvin, Joana Krupa, Chuck Liddell, Debi Mazar, Mya, Kelly Osbourne, Donnie Osmond and Louie Vito. Catch the second two-hour performance episode tomorrow, Tues., Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on /A\, and the first 60 minute results episode Wed., Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. on /A\.

10 p.m. – CSI: MIAMI – “Out of Time” – SEASON PREMIERE
As Delko’s (Adam Rodriguez) life hangs in the balance, Horatio (David Caruso) flashes back 12 years to reveal how Miami’s CSIs first met and became a team. The premiere marks the arrival of Officer Jesse Cardoza (Eddie Cibrian, THIRD WATCH), who joins the CSI: Miami team from the Hollywood division.

Tuesday, September 22

8 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – ALL-NEW 60 MINUTE PERFORMANCE EPISODE
The Top 12 dancers perform for Canada’s votes, becoming one step closer to a spot in the coveted Top 10.

9 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “Redemption” – SEASON PREMIERE
Airing in a special one-time only Tuesday night timeslot , Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) learn that the Red John case has been reassigned to a new CBI team led by the straight-shooting officer Sam Bosco (Terry Kinney, OZ). THE MENTALIST moves to its regular Thursday night at 10 p.m. ET timeslot beginning Oct. 1.

10 p.m. – LAW & ORDER: SVU – “Unstable” – SEASON PREMIERE
Officer Nate Kendall (guest star Wentworth Miller, PRISON BREAK) aids a woman in trouble and becomes roped into solving a rape case. While Detectives Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) believe that Kendall is not right for the case due to his unstable personality, Executive ADA Sonya Paxton (guest star Christine Lahti, JACK & BOBBY) joins the team, bringing evidence of a common thread among three other rape cases.

Wednesday, September 23

7:30 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – ALL-NEW HALF-HOUR RESULTS EPISODE
The Top 10 is revealed as two more dancers are eliminated live and their dream to become Canada’s Favourite Dancer ends.

8 p.m. – AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL – “Make Me Tall” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
The ladies meet with Miss J for tips on how to perfect their strut to prepare for their first runway show for designer Kevan Hall. One girl opens up about a former abusive relationship, and petite supermodel Jaime Rishar is this week’s guest judge.

9 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Nameless, Faceless” –SEASON PREMIERE
Hotch’s (Thomas Gibson) unexplained absence quickly becomes apparent when the team is called back together to profile a killer who is targeting an emergency room doctor.

10 p.m. – CSI: NY – “Epilogue” – SEASON PREMIERE
Following a spray of machine gunfire, the CSI team rises from the chaos. But when one member’s life is significantly changed, it proves to be the emotional motivation they need to piece together their lives and ultimately find the shooter.

Thursday, September 24

7 p.m. – THE VAMPIRE DIARIES – “Friday Night Bites” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
Airing for the first time in its new 7 p.m. ET timeslot, Elena (Nina Dobrev) tries to ignore Bonnie’s (Katerina Graham) warnings about the disturbing vibes she got from Stefan (Paul Wesley). Mr. Tanner (guest star Canadian Benjamin Ayres, SMALLVILLE) reluctantly lets Stefan join the football team. Elena invites Stefan and Bonnie to dinner, hoping that the two will bond, but the evening is disrupted by the unexpected and unwelcome arrival of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Caroline (Candice Accola).

8 p.m. – CSI – “Family Affair” – SEASON PREMIERE
The CSI team, with the unexpected but welcome return of Sara (Jorja Fox), comes together to investigate the death of a famous young actress killed in a dubious traffic collision.

9 p.m. – GREY’S ANATOMY – “Good Mourning/Goodbye” – TWO- HOUR SEASON PREMIERE
In the first hour, the hospital staff is left to deal with the aftermath of George’s (T.R. Knight) passing. Hitting the staff hard, they all find unique ways to get through the various stages of grief. George’s (Debra Monk, DAMAGES) mom returns, faced with the difficult task of deciding what to do with his organs. In the second hour, time has passed and everyone is struggling after losing one of their own and turning to any distraction they can find. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) seem to be consummating their marriage anywhere and everywhere, while Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) have been instructed to abstain from sex by Dr. Wyatt (Amy Madigan).

Friday, September 25

8 p.m. – GHOST WHISPERER – “Birthday Presence” – SEASON PREMIERE
Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) gives birth to a baby boy who also has the gift of seeing spirits, but with one important difference which will have far-reaching consequences.

9 p.m. – MEDIUM – “Déjà Vu All Over Again” – SEASON PREMIERE
Allison (Patricia Arquette) and her family deal with the outcome of her brain surgery and its possible lasting effects. Also, a local television station owner asks Agents Devalos (Migeul Sandoval) and Scanlon (David Cubitt) to look into the possible stalking of his sportscaster, who is also his wife.

10 p.m. – FLASHPOINT – “One Wrong Move” – RETURN OF ALL NEW EPISODES
FLASHPOINT returns with its most emotional and unforgettable episode ever as the SRU is pushed to the breaking point and desperately work to save the life of one of their own. After answering a bomb call in the downtown core the team soon discovers it’s just the first in a wave of bombings by a mysterious eco-terrorist organization. Ed (Hugh Dillon), Sam (David Paetkau) and Wordy (Michael Cram) must hunt down the terrorists, while bomb defusing experts Spike (Sergio Di Zio) and Lou (Mark Taylor) must defuse two bombs simultaneously.

Sunday, September 27

7 p.m. – DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES – “Nice is Different Than Good” – SEASON PREMIERE
Premiering in a special one-time only 7 p.m. ET timeslot, Mike Delfino’s (James Denton) bride will finally be revealed: Will it be Katherine (Dana Delany) or will recent events be enough to bring him and Susan (Teri Hatcher) back together? Lynette (Felicity Huffman) faces the reality of another pregnancy; Bree (Marcia Cross) struggles to break free from Orson (Kyle MacLachlan) and her inhibitions; Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) is put to the test by Carlos’ (Ricardo Chivira) teenaged niece, now in their care; and a new family with a dark past moves to Wisteria Lane. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES moves to its regular 9 p.m. ET timeslot beginning Sunday, October 4.

8 p.m. – THE AMAZING RACE – TWO-HOUR SEASON PREMIERE
On Season 15 of THE AMAZING RACE, contestants travel one of the fastest courses ever assembled spanning eight countries in just 21 days. This season also features the quickest elimination in the history of the series, sending one team home before they leave the starting line. Teams fortunate enough to avoid the surprise elimination face the ‘Switchback,’ which sends them back to the site of one of the series’ most infamous Roadblocks, as well as a surprise appearance by one of America’s most beloved entertainers. Season 15 features a diverse cast of racers including a team of Harlem Globetrotters, professional female poker players, the first-ever Racer with Asperger’s Syndrome, married yoga teachers and a former Miss America.

10 p.m. – COLD CASE – “The Crossing” – SEASON PREMIERE
The team looks into the 1966 shipboard murder of a young woman who, for decades, was believed to have rashly jumped overboard. Meanwhile, the trial against the military academy official who tried to harm Rush (Kathryn Morris) in last season’s two-part finale begins.

Monday, September 28

8 p.m. – DANCING WITH THE STARS – ALL-NEW TWO-HOUR PERFORMANCE EPISODE
The couples return to the dance floor to perform in hope of avoiding elimination.

10 p.m. – CSI: MIAMI – “Hostile Takeover” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
When the lab is attacked, Horatio (David Caruso) must fulfill a gunman’s unique request in order to save five hostages.

Tuesday, September 29

8 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – ALL-NEW 60 MINUTE PERFORMANCE EPISODE
The Top 10 competitors take to the stage and dance their hearts out to prove they should be Canada’s Favourite Dancer.

9 p.m. – DANCING WITH THE STARS – ALL-NEW RESULTS EPISODE
Its elimination night for the celebrity couples as one pairing is sent home.

10 p.m. – LAW & ORDER: SVU – “Sugar” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
A young woman’s body is found stuffed inside a suitcase, and police believe that the victim, Mindy Keefe (guest star Julie Craig, THE GUIDING LIGHT), was a train passenger on her way to Tampa when she was murdered. Detectives Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) turn to Keefe’s financier boyfriend, Owen Cassidy’s (guest star Matt C. Burns, THE KILL POINT) yacht to investigate. After further searching, the detectives discover Keefe belonged to an online dating website, but the detectives are forced to turn to ADA Sonya Paxton (Christine Lahti) when the CEO of the dating website, Vance Shepard (guest star Eric McCormack, WILL & GRACE), refuses to comment on the case.

Wednesday, September 30

7:30 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA – ALL-NEW HALF-HOUR RESULTS EPISODE
Ten dancers become eight as another guy and girl are eliminated live and leave the competition.

8 p.m. – AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL – “Take My Photo, Tyra!” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
The girls must work extra hard to stand out, literally, when Tyra wraps them up in vibrant fabrics and photographs them during this week’s photo challenge. Supermodel China Chow, a famous petite model, joins the judging panel as guest judge.

9 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Haunted” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
When a disturbed man kills several people at a pharmacy, the BAU must figure out what triggered his actions before he hurts anyone else.

10 p.m. – CSI: NY – “Blacklist” – ALL-NEW EPISODE
The case of a cyber killer, who appears to be targeting medical healthcare workers, turns personal when the suspect invokes the name of Mac’s (Gary Sinise) father who had died nearly two decades earlier.
