Lost Treasures of the Ancient World
Discovery Civilization presents a new 10-part series that takes a step back in
time to the lost palaces, temples and cities of antiquity. Premiering Wednesday,
September 3 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, for the first time in 3,000 years, Lost
Treasures of the Ancient World transports viewers to the wonders of the ancient
world.

From the olden city of Carthage and the magnificent temples at Chichen Itza, to
the breathtaking beauty of Ancient Greece and the jewel of east India, each
one-hour episode uses detailed reconstructions, stylish new photography and the
very latest 3D computer animation techniques, to bring the monuments of past
civilizations back to life.
Classic Albums
Premiering Sunday, September 7 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, Discovery
Civilization presents Classic Albums, a new 10-part series that showcases some of the greatest musical achievements in popular music. From Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac to The Grateful Dead, each one-hour episode uses riginal music and footage to provide viewers with unprecedented insight into the artist and the music that made them famous. Selected for their distinctive musical style and their enormous and lasting impact, each program in the series creates a picture of how that album was conceived, produced and recorded - from writing the lyrics to adding special effects and mixing the results in the studio...and also includes interviews with the people who were there at the time - engineers, record company executives, friends and fellow musicians - revealing stories and humorous anecdotes about the most creative period of these artists’ lives.
RETURNING SERIES
Meet The Ancestors
Discovery Civilization travels to bygone eras in its newest five-part series entitled Meet the Ancestors. Beginning Thursday, September 4 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, this engaging series features the top 10 U.K. treasures in the British Museum; the oldest house in Britain, which dates to 8500 BC; a mass grave in Lithuania revealing what really killed Napoleon’s Grand Army; a mysteriously deserted Roman ghost town, unused for centuries, in the heart of England; and a mission to recover the remains of the very rare Hermes transcontinental airliner which crashed in the Sahara in the 1950s. Each one-hour episode showcases these rchaeological detective stories from around the world. Visiting actual excavation sites and using the latest technology, research, computer graphics and reconstruction, experts piece together the full story behind intriguing finds and what they can tell us about past times.

Premiering Wednesday, September 11 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, Thomas Friedman: Searching for the Roots of 9/11 features Friedman as he speaks with Americans and Arabs sharing candid views on why the events of September 11th came to pass.
Who Is Vladimir Putin?
A life-long judo enthusiast whose trainer hoped he would become an Olympic champion. A former KGB spy who was forced to flee Germany when the Iron Curtain collapsed. Airing Sunday, September 21 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT Discovery Civilization presents an engaging one-hour special that probes to discover Who is Vladimir Putin?
Strictly Bingo
Bingo’s stale image of old grannies hanging out in a bingo hall with cigarettes dangling out of their mouths is changing. And the competition to become a world-renowned bingo caller is becoming increasingly fierce. On Saturday, September 13 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, Discovery Civilization showcases Strictly Bingo, a one-hour special that follows hopeful candidates on their unyielding journey to become Britain’s next National Bingo Caller of the Year.
Excitement and anxiety mount as the fierce competition gets underway. Viewers shadow competitors through this passionate journey and take a seat alongside the panel of judges as competitors give it their all.
Sex Addicts
Discovery Civilization takes viewers behind the tabloid headlines and looks at the reality of living with a high sex drive. What are the tricks and the lines that will get a result? Does a continual, overriding and increasingly intense obsession with one’s own fantasies become a problem or just a heightened pleasure? If fantasies become more extreme, more daring and more dangerous, how does real life measure up? Premiering Tuesday, October 28 at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT, Sex Addicts is a one-hour documentary that shadows Dr. Olly Lambert as he follows Paul, a man who lives his sexual life on the edge, egularly going to sex clubs and meeting strangers for sex in parks. Is this behaviour ‘wrong’, or is it a matter of preference? Is he ‘liberated’ or is his life just sordid? Olly seeks to understand what motivates a person to behave in such a manner, and how behaviour that is perceived as acceptable or normal by one person may not be by another.
