Corus Unveils W, VIVA and CosmoTV's fall programming highlights
Posted on Thursday, July 23, 2009 - 12:10 PM
Corus Entertainment

Corus Entertainment announced today the fall 2009 programming lineups for W Network, Cosmopolitan TV and VIVA. Appealing to women of all ages and life stages, the Corus suite of women specialty networks presents a broad offering of new and returning lifestyle series, hit dramas and non-stop blockbuster movies.

“Each of our women’s networks speaks to a distinct audience while they all encompass three pillars of programming: lifestyle, scripted entertainment and movies,” said Joanna Webb, Vice President, Programming, Corus Women’s Specialty Television. “Whereas W continues to provide a respite for busy, time-starved women with relaxing romantic comedies and expert-driven series that offer inspirational tips for living, CosmoTV concentrates on serving up fun, guilty-pleasure programming, while VIVA’s lineup showcases smart, sophisticated, experiential programming tailored to the boomer woman. In all, Corus’ women’s networks truly have something for every woman.”

This fall, W Network, Canada’s leading network for Women 25-54, adds a new Sunday morning movie block (Sunday’s at 10 a.m.) to its already robust movie schedule of back-to-back Saturday movies on Double Flix and Triple Flix. Among the first run titles premiering this fall will be Georgia Rule, Because I Said So and Nanny Diaries. In addition, Julia Louis-Dreyfus joins W’s weeknight comedy block with the hit series The New Adventures of Old Christine. W’s roster of lifestyle experts expands with the launch of the Canadian makeover show Eat Yourself Sexy hosted by famed nutritionist Gillian McKeith from the popular U.K. series You Are What You Eat and The Shopping Bags add some beauty to the mix with Anna and Kristina’s Beauty Call. British lifestyle series continue to drive ratings with the W audience, and this fall How to Look Good Naked returns with Season 5 and 10 Years Younger: The Challenge joins the schedule. These new shows round out a strong returning lineup of Canadian original series that include Style By Jury, Divine Design and Love It or List It.

CosmoTV, which targets Women 18-34, brings viewers more men, sex and style this fall with the addition of the popular one-hour drama Lipstick Jungle; a second season of the stylist-to-the-stars series The Rachel Zoe Project; Season 3 of CosmoTV’s flagship magazine show Oh So Cosmo; and the 2nd annual CosmoTV Bachelor Search. CosmoM, the channels movie block will continue to screen fun and flirty movies every Friday to Sunday.

Targeting boomer women, VIVA serves up more food-focused programming in the daily VIVA Cuisine time block with the debut of the new original series Fearless in the Kitchen starring Canadian cooking sensation Christine Cushing, along with the Canadian premiere of Spain…on the Road Again featuring Gwyneth Paltrow and celebrity chef Mario Batali. VIVA’s lineup of smart, sophisticated movies this fall includes a two-month movie event called Crowns & Corsets featuring titles such as Elizabeth, First Knight, The Virgin Queen and Marie Antoinette. Building on the popularity among women for crime and detective programming, VIVA’s Crime in Prime evening block will add Cold Case and new episodes of Rescue Mediums and Psychic Investigators to a lineup that currently includes the hit drama The Closer.
