Highlights of the 2003-2004 season. GREAT FILMS Cider House Rules Fall 2003 Michael Caine and Tobey Maguire star in this story of Homer,a young man raised in an orphanage by an eccentric doctor.The doctor is a loving patriarch who is grooming Homer to become his successor.But the young man needs to experience life,so he leaves the orphanage and heads to an apple farm where he learns about both the sweetness and pain of life. Fargo Sept.20 at 9pm ET In this award-winning black comedy from the Coen brothers,a car salesman (William H.Macy)hires a pair of thugs to kidnap his wife in order to extort money from his wealthy but stingy father-in-law.When three people wind up murdered,the local,pregnant police chief (Frances McDormand)picks up the investigation.Fargo was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Felicia’s Journey Fall 2003 Atom Egoyan brings William Trevor’s award-winning novel to the big screen in this story of a naïve young Irish girl named Felicia as she searches for the boyfriend who impregnated her and promised to write.Felicia meets a kind and gentle middle-aged man,Joseph,who offers her shelter and promises to help her find the father of her unborn child.But Joseph is not what he seems and their meeting changes them both in ways that neither could have expected. Requiem for a Dream Fall 2003 Jared Leto,Jennifer Connelly and Marlon Wayans star as a group of friends who each have high hopes of someday moving on to better lives.However, the more determined they become to realize their dreams,the deeper they descend into a spiral of despair fueled by drugs.
