| CP24's Inaugural Live Coverage of Pride Toronto 2009 Reaches Almost 600,000 Viewers |

The first-ever broadcast of Toronto’s infamous Pride Parade on CP24 garnered an impressive unduplicated Total Reach of 589,000 total viewers* yesterday, Sunday, June 26. Viewers showed their support and tuned in to both the 2 p.m. live broadcast (337,000) and the encore presentation at 8 p.m. (315,000) of the Pride Parade. This year, CP24 Toronto’s Breaking News, CTV and Pride Toronto entered in to a trailblazing three year exclusive broadcast partnership to provide CP24 viewers and CP24 Radio 1050 listeners with live Pride Parade coverage.
CP24.com/Pride2009 was CP24’s online destination for coverage of Pride with 30 per cent more visitors** than average to CP24.com/Pride2009.
“The results for the first-ever broadcast of the Toronto Pride Parade are beyond our expectations” said Bob McLaughlin, Vice President of CP24. “Torontonians trust CP24 as the city’s #1 source for breaking news, weather and traffic updates and this is another example of how our programming reaches out to the community.”
“We feel the exposure from CP24 and CTV combined has catapulted PRIDE into a different league entirely,” said Tracey Sandilands, Pride Toronto Executive Director. “Clearly giving us a much bigger audience that we would have had otherwise, it has hugely increased the awareness of the community and the Parade across the country.”
Pride Week is one of the premier arts and cultural festivals in Canada and one of the largest Pride celebrations in the world with an estimated attendance of more than one million people. An award-winning festival, Pride Week is one of only eight officially designated City of Toronto "Signature Events", is recognized as one of the "Top 50 Festivals in Ontario" by Festivals and Events Ontario, and has been awarded "Best Festival in Canada" by the Canadian Special Event Industry two years in a row.
