Big-Buzz Specials Burn Up CTV's Hot Summer Schedule

CTV sizzles this summer with the addition of red-hot specials to a fresh summer schedule already featuring new episodes of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, THE LISTENER, CANADA’s NEXT TOP MODEL, LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT, MERLIN and more. From singers and comedians to Canada’s favourite youngsters, CTV’s summer specials rev up the mercury with a slew of programs for viewers of all ages.

With his new performance DVD/CD hitting stores this week, CTV presents the World Television Premiere of MICHAEL BUBLÉ MEETS MADISON SQUARE GARDEN on Wednesday, June 24 at 10 p.m. ET. Then, on Canada Day, celebrate our nation’s birthday with iconic Canadian songstress Rita McNeil in the all-new special, RITA MACNEIL PRESENTS MEN OF THE DEEPS, Wednesday, July 1 at 10 p.m. ET. From music to high-octane action, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY premieres Sunday, July 5 at 9 p.m. ET. Hot on the heels of his hosting gig at THE 2009 JUNO AWARDS and cross-country tour, Canadian comedian Russell Peters pushes the envelope once again with the World Broadcast Premiere of his one-hour comedy special, RUSSELL PETERS: RED, WHITE AND BROWN, Friday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET.

Finally, just in time for the back to school season, CTV presents the special two-hour movie event PARADISE CITY: DEGRASSI GOES HOLLYWOOD, Sun., Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. ET, featuring DEGRASSI favourites Paige (Lauren Collins), Ellie (Stacey Farber), Craig (Jake Epstein), Marco (Adamo Ruggiero) and Manny (Cassie Steele) plus several guest stars including Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) and Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks).

MICHAEL BUBLÉ MEETS MADISON SQUARE GARDEN (World Television Premiere)

This one-hour special features an intimate and complex portrayal of the Canadian singing sensation in the days, minutes and seconds leading up to his historic concert at Madison Square Garden. The special includes masterful Bublé performances and breathlessly captures all the elements surrounding the show. In addition, viewers observe Bublé in action backstage with his band and family. Performance highlights include the classic romance song "Me and Mrs. Jones," Leon Russell’s beloved “A Song For You,” and the haunting Bublé-penned love letter and No. 1 hit single, "Home."

The Michael Bublé Tour lasted two years and played to one million fans worldwide including 80 sold out appearances in the United States. MICHAEL BUBLÉ MEETS MADISON SQUARE GARDEN also features footage of Bublé's emotional visit to the famed Blue Note Club where he first performed in New York City before exploding onto the music scene.


RITA MACNEIL PRESENTS MEN OF THE DEEPS (World Television Premiere)

From the historic Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, multiple JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Rita MacNeil presents Men of the Deeps – North America’s only coal mining choir. Comprised of working and retired miners from Cape Breton, the Men of the Deeps choir was formed in 1966 during Montreal’s Expo, in the hope of keeping alive the stories, traditions, hardships, tragedies and camaraderie’s of their mining communities. In this heart-warming one-hour special, MacNeil and guests sing some of her most beloved songs, including “Working Man” and “Home I’ll Be.”

In the first ever DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION movie, the Degrassi students venture to L.A. via school bus with hopes to score parts in Mewesical High, a musical directed by Jason Mewes (Clerks) under the mentorship of Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma). Paige (Lauren Collins), personal assistant to THE SHORES reality television star Hailey Montel (Mary Ashton), understands that in life you work from the ground up, but when Hollywood hands Paige a shortcut to fame and fortune, she jumps at the opportunity and takes Marco (Adamo Ruggiero) and Ellie (Stacey Farber) along for the ride. Back in Toronto, Manny (Cassie Steele) has immersed herself in her university theatre program and is committed to becoming an “actor of substance.” The star of Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh?, Manny blows an opportunity to star in Mewes’ feature and then heads on a road trip to L.A. to win the role and realize her dream.
