Edie Falco returns to television in the new Showtime series Nurse Jackie
Posted on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - 06:21 PM
The Movie Network & Movie Central

As a sharp-witted New York City nurse who uses a white lie here and a bent rule there as a means of survival, multiple Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winner Edie Falco makes her long anticipated return to television in the new Showtime series Nurse Jackie. Premiering exclusively in Canada on Astral Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) on Monday, June 8 at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT, viewers will have an opportunity to watch an online and on-demand preview of the first episode two weeks prior to the broadcast premiere.

In this 12-episode, half-hour dark comedy, Falco stars as the series’ title character, Jackie Peyton, a flawed, sharp-tongued ER nurse who does whatever it takes – good or bad – to get through the daily chaotic grind of working and saving lives at the hectic All Saints Hospital. A lapsed Catholic with a weakness for prescription medication to help deal with her chronic back pain, Jackie keeps the hospital balanced with her unique bedside manner and own brand of medical justice.

Nurse Jackie also stars: Peter Facinelli as “Dr. Fitch Cooper”, a confident and cocky doctor who clashes with Jackie on a regular basis; Eve Best as “Dr. Eleanor O’Hara”, Jackie’s best and most unlikely friend at work; Merritt Wever as “Zoey Barkow”, the hospital’s newest nursing intern; Haaz Sleiman as “Mohammed ‘Mo Mo’ de la Cruz”, a close friend and colleague; and Paul Schulze as “Eddie Walzer”, the hospital pharmacist who shares a very close and potentially dangerous relationship with Jackie. The series is written by Liz Brixius, Linda Wallem and Evan Dunsky with Wallem and Brixius also serving as executive producers and showrunners. John Melfi and Caryn Mandabach are executive producers and Richie Jackson is co-executive producer. The series is directed by Steve Buscemi, Craig Zisk, Scott Ellis and Paul Feig.
