New Season of In Treatmen Begins April 5th on HBO Canada
Posted on Monday, March 23, 2009 - 03:23 PM
Movie Central

HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada), has a new set of appointments booked with Dr. Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne) beginning Sunday, April 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, day-and-date with HBO in the U.S. The critically acclaimed half-hour drama series In Treatment, which takes viewers into the highly charged confines of individual psychotherapy sessions returns for a second season featuring new patients and new issues.

As season two opens, newly divorced Dr. Weston is now running his practice from the living room of his Brooklyn, New York brownstone, where he has relocated to from Maryland. Rebuilding his practice while wrestling with some of the demons he left behind – including a lawsuit filed by the father of Alex (Blair Underwood), a patient who died last year – Paul takes on four new patients from Monday to Thursday, and also continues to commute to Maryland every Friday for his own sessions with Dr. Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest).

The new patients seeking Paul’s help over the 35-episode new season include (in order of sessions): Mia (Hope Davis), an attorney and former patient of Paul's, who becomes his patient again after he asks her firm to defend him in a malpractice case; April (Alison Pill), a 23-year-old architecture student who has been diagnosed with cancer, but refuses to seek treatment or tell her parents; Oliver (Aaron Shaw), an 11-year-old who manifests the stress of his parents' (Russell Hornsby and Sherri Saum) divorce by over-eating; and Walter (John Mahoney), a CEO who, when confronted by professional scandal and personal loss, finds his lifelong defenses are no longer holding up.

In Treatment will debut on HBO Canada two nights each week beginning Sunday, April 5 – two episodes will premiere Sundays at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/MT, and three episodes will premiere consecutively on Monday nights beginning at 9 p.m. ET/MT. The Monday night premieres will be preceded by repeats of the Sunday night episodes, starting at 8 p.m. ET/MT, so viewers can see all five episodes for the week back-to-back on Monday nights. Every Tuesday all five episodes for that week will be available on The Movie Network OnDemand and Movie Central On Demand. The series will also be offered in high definition on HBO Canada HD.

In Treatment is adapted from the popular Israeli series B’Tipul, and is executive produced by Hagai Levi, Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Warren Leight, Paris Barclay and Rodrigo Garcia.

In Treatment’s first season recently received five Golden Globe® nominations, the most of any television series in 2008, and four Emmy® nominations. Gabriel Byrne won the Golden Globe® for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama, and Dianne Wiest won an Emmy® Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Glynn Turman was also awarded an Emmy® for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
