Can Stephen Harper handle his opponents or will they handle him? Canadians can turn to CBC Newsworld, Television, Radio One and www.cbcnews.ca/canadavotes for comprehensive coverage and analysis on the federal leaders’ debates taking place October 1 and 2 from the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Taking part will be the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Stephen Harper, Stéphane Dion of the Liberal Party, Jack Layton of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Gilles Duceppe of the Bloc Québécois, and Elizabeth May, representing the Green Party for the first time in the leaders’ debates.

Following the English language leaders’ debate on Thursday, October 2, CBC NEWS: THE NATIONAL airs as CBC News chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge, along with Canada’s most-watched political panel At Issue, weigh in on the debates. Viewers will hear from Chantal Hébert, national affairs columnist with the Toronto Star; Andrew Coyne, national editor of Maclean’s; and Allan Gregg, one of Canada’s best-known pollsters and founder of Harris Decima.
