With the launch of Interactive Activation Service - Bell ExpressVu digital TV goes self-serve
Posted on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 04:17 PM
Bell TV (ExpressVu)

Bell ExpressVu, Canada's leader in digital home entertainment, today launched the very first Interactive Activation Service (IAS) in North America.

New customers who purchase Bell ExpressVu 3100 models will soon be able to configure their own services and choose their own programming packages by following the onscreen instructions and using their receiver remote. This new feature will also be available on the personal video recorder models shortly.

"This exclusive new service not only lets us solidify our reputation as a technology leader, but also represents a major customer service enhancement," said Bell ExpressVu President Tim McGee. "Consumers are increasingly enthusiastic about interactive features. Our Interactive Activation Service offers simplicity, choice and customer control over their activation experience."

The interactive activation process can be completed in six easy steps. Once the receiver is connected to a phone line, the customer tunes into Channel 191 (192 in the French-language version) and provides the requested subscriber ID information using the keys on the remote. The customer is then asked to confirm his home address, after which he can begin the programming selection process, choosing from among the various programming packages
displayed on the screen. Once the confirmation process for the programming options has been completed, the receiver will be activated within the next few hours.

"The new service will be implemented gradually," added Mr. McGee. "Initially, professional installers will be available to guide users through the activation process, which takes about 9 to 12 minutes. But soon customers will be able to look after their own activations using the TV remote. Of course, they will always have the option of calling our Customer Service group
to activate their system."

The free Interactive Activation Service will automatically grant the appropriate programming credits to customers when they activate, based on their eligibility for various promotions. Likewise, the system will automatically apply any savings or any rebates associated with the selected packages.
