(World Television Premiere) – Monday, September 15 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
In Marie Chouinard’s innovative project, the company's 10 dancers execute variations on the exercise of freedom. Not only do the dancers appear on pointe, they also use different devices – crutches, rope, prostheses, horizontal bars, and harnesses – which either liberate or restrict their movements. Chouinard presents her ideas through an interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations. The work was first presented at the Venice Biennale's International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Italy in 2005, and received the Grand Prix du Conseil des Arts in 2007, Canada’s most prestigious cultural award.
AIDA
Saturday, September 20 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT
An Ethiopian princess brought into slavery becomes a military commander's object of affection. This adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi’s operatic masterpiece was produced at the Teatro alla Scala in 2006. The stage production was directed and designed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli.
THAT’S MY TIME
