Canadian Olympians Share Their Journey To Beijing in ten-part series 'Meet the Canadians'
Posted on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - 02:24 PM
Rogers Sportsnets

With the 2008 Summer Olympics just around the corner, Rogers Sportsnet will feature the compelling story of gymnast Kyle Shewfelt, one of nine Canadian Olympic athletes who will be profiled in a series called “Meet the Canadians”.

Shewfelt’s story on his grueling comeback from two broken legs after a failed training exercise at the World Championships in Germany last year – will be the first of a ten-part series airing every night beginning Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 6 p.m. (ET)/6:30 p.m. (PT) on Sportsnet Connected. Viewers will get a unique look at the Olympic champion as he recalls his thoughts from a blog he started when he first got injured – describing the emotional and physical torment from being unable to train while stuck in a wheelchair, to finally qualifying for the Canadian team in order to defend his Olympic gold medal in Beijing.

Other interesting tales includes Calgary wrestler Ari Taub whose attempts to qualify for the Olympics has spanned almost 20 years, and defending world champion swimmer Brent Hayden – looking to avenge his Olympic disappointment in Athens ’04 when his alarm clock accidentally woke him too early for his morning heat, and his strange encounter towards the end of the games when he was mistakenly beaten by Greek riot police.

The series will run nightly on Sportsnet Connected right up to the opening ceremonies on August 8th.
