Jim Furyk Looks for Third Consecutive Canadian Open Title, Live This Week on TSN and TSN HD
Posted on Monday, July 21, 2008 - 08:41 PM
TSN

Two-time defending champion Jim Furyk returns to Canada to try for a third consecutive title at this week’s 2008 RBC Canadian Open from Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont. TSN presents live coverage of the first two rounds of the Canadian Open – the PGA TOUR’s only event in Canada – on Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25, beginning at 3 p.m. ET each day. Coverage is also available in High Definition on TSN HD.

Reports and highlights from the Canadian Open will be available throughout the week on SportsCentre and online at TSN.ca.

Furyk, the current No. 10-ranked golfer in the world, is attempting to become the first player ever to win the Canadian Open three years in a row, a feat that four others before him – including the legendary Sam Snead – have failed to accomplish. Jim Ferrier was the most recent back-to-back champion to try for three straight Canadian Open titles after winning the event in 1950 and 1951.

This year Furyk will be up against a field that includes world No. 14 Anthony Kim who is coming off of an impressive showing at The Open Championship last week where he finished tied for seventh place with fellow Canadian Open competitor Stephen Ames of Calgary. Ames is joined by 13 other Canadians in this year’s field, including fan favourite Mike Weir who will look to be the first Canadian to win the tournament since 1954. Other notable challengers include Retief Goosen, Fred Couples and 2005 winner Mark Calcavecchia.

First played in 1904, the Canadian Open is the second oldest PGA TOUR event and the third oldest national championship. This year marks the 99th edition of the tournament.
