TSN Celebrates Canada Day – NHL Style, with Free Agent Frenzy Show, Tuesday
Posted on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 09:37 AM
TSN

Let the free agent fireworks begin! TSN celebrates the start of the NHL’s free agency period on Canada Day with its second annual NHL on TSN: Free Agent Frenzy show, airing Tuesday, July 1 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET, with a special one-hour edition of SportsCentre from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. Free Agent Frenzy will also be available live on NHL Network.

Hosted by James Duthie, Free Agent Frenzy features TSN’s team of hockey experts and correspondents in each Canadian NHL city, providing news of the day’s transactions when the free agent market opens for business at 12 noon ET.

TSN Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger, along with play-by-play voice Gord Miller, are dialed in at the ‘News Breakers’ desk to bring viewers the most up-to-date information on NHL signings. Duthie is joined by TSN hockey analysts Pierre McGuire, Mike Milbury and Darren Pang on the Instant Analysis panel. Duthie will also conduct live interviews with players, coaches and GMs from around the league, providing viewers with comprehensive access to instant reaction from the deal-makers and players involved.

Cory Woron will anchor TSN’s special one-hour edition of SportsCentre at 6 p.m. ET, re-capping all of the day’s events with extensive reports and reaction from around the NHL. Woron will also keep viewers informed of breaking signings throughout the day with SportsCentre Updates during TSN’s live coverage of the women’s quarter-finals at Wimbledon (7 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET).

Augmenting TSN’s live coverage of Free Agent Frenzy, TSN.ca will have a free agent tracker that can be accessed from both its main page and the site’s NHL page. The tracker will provide an updated list of every free agent signing, along with all other transactions made by teams this off-season. In addition, TSN.ca will have highlights, updates and analysis throughout the day featuring Duthie and the panel, along with free agency preview reports from every Canadian team leading up to Free Agent Frenzy, beginning Saturday. The website will also feature an ‘Off-Season Game Plan’ for each NHL team, breaking down each organization’s strengths, weaknesses, needs and prospects by position.

Last year, a total of 24 unrestricted free agents signed new deals on July 1.
