Posted on Sunday, April 06, 2003 - 11:57 AM
Star Choice

On April 2nd Star Choice finally unveiled the improvements to its channel lineup and hardware selection in response to earlier announcements by its competitors.

The first round of new channels being added will appear on May 1st, 2003. More channels will be added to the existing 370 channel lineup throughout the summer and fall bringing the final total of channels to over 400.

The new channels being added are CBC-CBOT Ottawa to the locals category. CBC-CKSA Lloydminster, CTV-CITL Lloydminster, CBC-CJDC Dawson Creek, and CBC-CFTK Terrace Kittimat will also be added to that category but will only be available to subscribers in those areas.

Discovery Wings will be joining their specialty bundle 'Smart Stuff', and a free 3 month prevue will begin on May 1st as well.

In the fall Star Choice will be launching 6, possibly 8, new HDTV channels with more possibly coming in Q1 of 2004 depending on availability in Canada.

This summer marks the arrival of a new integrated HDTV receiver, the Motorola DSR 500, with an enhanced on-screen programming guide including interactive features.

Q1 of 2004 brings the Motorola DSR 530 to the Star Choice receiver lineup. This is a dual tuner receiver which will finally bring to Star Choice subscribers a PVR unit. This unit, in particular, will allow for simultaneous watching and digital recording including HDTV content.
