GolTV Nets Italian National Team World Cup Qualifying Matches

Gol TV Canada

GolTV, the 24-hour all soccer network, announced today that it has acquired the exclusive Canadian and U.S. broadcast rights to the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches of the Italian national team. As per the agreement, GolTV will have exclusive North American coverage of the reigning World Cup Champions’ home matches against Montenegro, Georgia, Ireland, Bulgaria and Cyprus. GolTV will also exclusively televise six of Italy’s friendly matches during the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup, beginning with a game versus Belgium on May 30, 2008.

In 2006, Italy was crowned the FIFA World Cup champion in Germany, adding to the country’s three other World Cup titles from 1934, 1938 and 1982.

“By bringing soccer fans the high-quality action of Italy’s qualifying matches, we reassert our relentless commitment to providing North American viewers the opportunity to see the best soccer matches played throughout the world right in their homes,” said Enzo Francescoli, founder and CEO of GolTV.

Several of the Italian national team members are already regular stars on GolTV due to the network’s exclusive rights to many of Europe’s soccer leagues, including Fabio Cannavaro from Real Madrid, Luca Toni from Bayern Munich, and Gennaro Gattuso from AC Milan.

In March 2008, GolTV announced the acquisition of the exclusive Canadian and U.S. broadcast rights to all of Germany’s 2010 World Cup qualifying matches as well as exclusive coverage of six friendly games.
