Production Starts for The Dating Guy

marblemedia and BLUEPRINT ENTERTAINMENT are proud to announce the start of production on their flash-animated series, THE DATING GUY. This half-hour 13 episode series is scheduled to air March 2009 on TELETOON, as part of the popular teen/adult programming block, The Detour on TELETOON, available in both English and French.

THE DATING GUY is a smart, edgy and urban-minded animated sitcom that tackles relationships from the twenty-something perspective. Created by marblemedia partners Mark Bishop and Matt Hornburg and developed with TELETOON, it boldly exposes the romantic, working and every day struggles of four friend’s attempts at finding love…or lust. With an entourage of quirky supporting characters, the show offers an eclectic and comical view to the world of dating.

The new toon will be extended on-line in the form of an experience that parody's popular social networking sites. With an assortment of interactive and user generated features, the website will complete the viewing experience for Dating Guy fans.

Along with executive producers Bishop and Hornburg from marblemedia and John Morayniss and Frank Saperstein from BLUEPRINT, the creative team includes Frank van Keekan (Kids in the Hall, Mad About You) who comes on board as series showrunner and executive producer; Gemini award-winner Joe Sherman (Johnny Test) steps in as director. Marilyn McAuley (Skyland, Jacob Two Two) serves as supervising producer, House of Cool (Ice Age 1 & 2, Horton Hears a Who) will handle pre-production and designs, while Smiley Guy Studios (Odd Job Jack) will produce the animation.

“We are very happy to move forward with production on this wonderfully funny show with great partners in marblemedia and TELETOON,” said Executive Producer Frank Saperstein. “We have assembled a fantastic team with tremendous creative energy and experience that will bring the characters and world to life.”

“This dynamic group of storytellers is equipped with the accomplished credentials that are sure to give support in bringing this series to life on TV and on the web,” said co-creator Matt Hornburg. “marblemedia is so pleased to make this foray into animation with such a brilliant crew behind it.”

“From the first pitch TELETOON recognized the potential of The Dating Guy to have broad appeal with our teen and adult audience,” says Michael Goldsmith, Director of Original Content, TELETOON Canada Inc. “In partnering with marblemedia and BLUEPRINT we’re confident in delivering a hilarious home-grown hit that sends up dating and romance with a blend of satire and comedy that will resonate with Detour fans.”
