Duel Returns for Another Battle
Posted on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 - 04:51 PM
CTV

The adrenaline pumping, high-stakes competition game show Duel returns with 10 new episodes airing weekly beginning Friday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Hosted by ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, Duel features head-to-head matches of nerve-rattling game play where contestants must use strategy to win a series of duels and collect the $500,000 jackpot. But this time around, there’s a twist.

Contestants on Duel are chosen for their confidence and charisma, a love of trivia and an obsession for competition. Like Season 1, a contestant wins a duel and picks their next opponent from three potential competitors having only been given a limited amount of information about them; the twist is that not all may be as it appears with these challengers.

Duel premiered in December 2007 as a tournament-style competition airing over six nights, with one of 20 contestants guaranteed to win a cash windfall. Contestant Ashlee Register ultimately ended up taking home over $1.7 million. This season, Duel will air weekly, with each episode featuring a new group of contestants vying to duel either the previous week’s winner or a brand new opponent. The goal? Win a series of duels and take home $500,000. But along the way, contestants will be tempted to leave the game and walk away with their accumulated winnings.

In a cutting-edge format combining trivia challenges like those utilized on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with the strategy used in the World Series of Poker, Duel contestants once again find themselves in intense head-to-head matches. Reacting quickly under pressure and outsmarting their opponents by using strategy and deception, as well as intellect and skill, is important when trying to win the race for big money.
