CosmopolitanTV Launches Feb. 14
Posted on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 04:01 PM
CosmopolitanTV

Women’s relationships with men, sex and style will never be quite the same with the debut of Corus Entertainment’s Cosmopolitan TV on Thursday, February 14. Launched in partnership with Hearst Corporation and inspired by the world’s bestselling women’s magazine, this new addition to the television dial promises fun, flirty and irreverent entertainment for women. Cosmopolitan TV Canada joins Cosmopolitan Television networks in Spain and Latin America.

“There is a lot of excitement about the launch of CosmoTV – this is the first English-language version of the channel in the world and we’re thrilled that we’re offering it to Canadian women,” said Susan Ross, Executive Vice President, General Manager, Lifestyle, Drama and Movies, Corus Entertainment. “Cosmo is an iconic brand, one that really resonates with young women. And with Corus’ long standing experience in women’s specialty television – right out of the gate we have a good head start at making this a success.”

Targeting women 18-34, CosmoTV programming runs the gamut from comedy to drama to relationship and reality programming. Like the magazine, the focus for CosmoTV is men, sex and relationships, packed with the kind of information that best girlfriends share over drinks. With series like CosmoTV’s flagship show Oh So Cosmo to uncut marathons of Sex and the City and The Bachelor, CosmoTV will be the go-to channel for a saucy peek into the lifestyle of a Cosmo Girl.

Other grabbers on the schedule include The Agency, a seven-part series following bookers from the top-flight Wilhelmina modeling agency; Abbey and Janice: Beauty and the Best, a six-parter featuring Britain’s Next Top Model star Abbey Clancy and über-supermodel Janice Dickinson as they break Abbey into the American modeling world; and Dirty Cows, a hilarious look at a bunch of English roses who fight dirty to win the hand -- and land -- of a wealthy, handsome farmer.

Weekend mornings are packed with shows for the Cosmo girl recovering from a night on the town. CosmoTV’s Hangover Weekends has them in mind, with a program block featuring guilty pleasures like: Beautiful People, Miss Match, Felicity, Veronica Mars, American Princess, Ladette to Lady, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Abbey and Janice: Beauty and the Best.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, viewers can enjoy hot flicks at home on CineCosmo – featuring the very best in eye-candy (like Jude Law in Alfie and Ethan Hawke in Before Sunset), to popcorn favourites (Two Weeks Notice, Uptown Girls, and Legally Blonde) to iconic 80s classics (Pretty in Pink, Say Anything, Flashdance and Dirty Dancing).

On www.cosmotv.ca, the fun continues online with notorious, gotta-try-that Sex Tips, quintessential Cosmo quizzes, sneak peeks of new programs, behind the scenes content from Oh So Cosmo and CosmoTV Bachelor Search voting.

Starting Thursday, February 14, Cosmopolitan TV will be available to all Bell ExpressVu customers on channel 608. Ongoing negotiations with additional carriers are continuing.

PROGRAMMING DETAILS:

Oh So Cosmo

CosmoTV’s flagship series, Oh So Cosmo brings Cosmopolitan magazine to life in a 30-minute weekly show hosted by Cosmo girl Josie Dye. Jam-packed with the same juicy tips, sexy advice and Cosmo girl secrets that you find on the magazine rack, this fast-paced half-hour of dish is scheduled to air every Wednesday at 9 p.m., beginning February 20. The series sneak peeks on Thursday, February 14 at 10 p.m. as part of the special CosmoTV launch schedule.

Abbey and Janice: Beauty and the Best

Britain’s Next Top Model star Abbey Clancy is a girl with ambition. She’s had a crack at the modeling business in Britain and now she’s got her sights set on America. Her partner in crime? The original supermodel, the legendary Janice Dickinson. As Abbey’s manic mentor, she’ll be coaching her on castings, photo shoots and go-sees, giving her a strict supermodel regime to follow and pushing her to the absolute limit. This funny and frenetic six-part series airs every Monday at 8 p.m., beginning February 18. Catch a sneak peek on Thursday, February 14 at 8 p.m. as part of the special CosmoTV launch schedule.

The Agency

This new reality series profiles a group of booking agents at the Wilhelmina agency and blows open the doors on the business of beautiful people with a startling look at the lives of the men and women who create some of the most sought-after and recognizable faces in the world. The half-hour seven-part series airs every Monday at 9 p.m. with two back-to-back episodes, beginning February 18. A sneak peek of the series airs at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 14.

Dirty Cows

Take 10 stylin’ British babes, add one cold and lofty barn and a young, rich, handsome farmer looking for love, and you’ve got a recipe for mayhem, because to win his heart they’re going to have to fight like dirty cows. Destined to be a hit, Dirty Cows airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. starting February 20, and sneak peeks on Thursday, February 14 at 9 p.m.
