TSN Supports Hockey Fights Cancer with Dedicated NHL on TSN Broadcast, Tomorrow

TSN

NHL on TSN marks the 10th anniversary of the NHL-NHLPA Hockey Fights Cancer campaign during a special edition of Wednesday Night Hockey tomorrow (Oct. 10) - Edmonton @ Minnesota - beginning with the pre-game show at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Coverage includes a special feature that tells the stories of active NHL players afflicted with cancer - including 34-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Jason Blake, who announced yesterday that he has been diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.

NHL on TSN host James Duthie also conducts an interview with 20-year-old Boston Bruins' forward Phil Kessel, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer last year. Following a successful return to the Bruins' lineup, Kessel was named the 2007 recipient of the NHL's Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Kessel is the fourth cancer survivor honoured with the Masterton Trophy. The others are Mario Lemieux (1993), John Cullen (1999) and Saku Koivu (2002).

The entire NHL on TSN broadcast team, including the studio panel, game announcers Chris Cuthbert and Glenn Healy, and game reporter Ryan Rishaug, will all wear pink ties in support of Hockey Fights Cancer. The charitable initiative has raised more than $9 million for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research since its inception in 1998.

October is Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month around the NHL. Throughout the month, all players will wear a pink Hockey Fights Cancer decal on the back of their helmets, while each team will host a Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night.
