Uncharted Waters Hold Undiscovered Wonders in "Pacific Abyss"
Posted on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 10:12 AM
Discovery Channel

In the murky depths where twisted metal from decades-old shipwrecks and Second World War-era fighter planes mingle, a team of intrepid divers seeks new marine life. "Pacific Abyss," journeys to Truk Lagoon in Micronesia where 5,000 fighter pilots and sailors from the Second World War lie in a watery grave. In this new two-hour special, see how the sunken wrecks now host vibrant reefs teeming with life: the perfect location to hunt for new species of marine animals.

Living aboard a dive vessel, the Abyss team ventures 1,500 metres down into uncharted waters to explore the artificial caves created by the rusted war relics. "Pacific Abyss" reveals some of the most fascinating and potentially lethal sea creatures alive - including original discoveries that until now have been unknown to scientists and never been captured on film.

"Pacific Abyss" premieres Sun., Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
