ichannel’s schedule of new fall programs begins over the Thanksgiving weekend, and “Intelligent Television” has a special week of shows to launch their seventh season as one of Canada’s premiere digital television channels.
The Gemini-nominated documentary “John Turner – In His Own Words” airs on Sunday, October 7th, at 9:00pm. The one-hour bio allows Turner to candidly chronicle his own career as a Canadian political leader, navigating the country through its most tumultuous decades. He also shares his visions and misgivings concerning Canada’s future.
The full schedule of new programming begins on Monday, October 8th with “Mental Health Awareness Week”, recognizing World Mental Day on October 10th. A number of shows will deal with the topic, most prominently in a special two-part “@issue”.
“ichannel programming will incorporate more theme weeks than before,” according to Rosemary Fusca, Director of Programming, “For example, October 17th is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, so significant programming that week will deal with issues effecting ‘World Child Poverty’ and ‘Poverty in Canada’.” Other themes include Veterans Week, Human Rights Day, and Black History Month.
New shows have been added to the schedule including an acclaimed series, “The Coach”, featuring the true experiences and accomplishments of a nomadic therapeutic samaritan. “Boost” provides tips on every level of health and well-being; “Rescue X” is a reality show featuring actual emergency workers in competition. “Invent” spotlights advancements in science and technology, and “Thinkgreen” is an informative magazine-style eco-series. The award-winning BBC documentary series “One Life” joins the lineup, and Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint star in the dramatic series “Any Day Now”. Two returning shows of note are the esteemed Australian Broadcasting Corporation science-journalism series “Catalyst” and “72 Hours”, a true crime documentary following investigations through the most crucial period after a crime. There is also a new season of landmark documentaries on “i Docs” and a new roster of significant cinematic achievements on “The Film”, highlighted by standout performances from Sidney Poitier, Anthony LaPaglia, and Thomas Cavanaugh to name a few.
Returning favourites include the channel’s flagship show “@issue”, Former Liberal Party President Stephen LeDrew’s perennially popular “It’s LeDrew”, the “Underground Royal Commission Investigates” with Mercedes Stephenson, and the in-depth documentary series “Investigative Affairs” with host Christopher Heard.
ichannel is available by subscription through cable and satellite providers. The digital television channel enjoys its largest and most devoted audience since launching in 2001.
