| Earth falls into an Ice Age in the new Canadian series Grand Star |

Based on a collection of novels from French novelist Georges J. Arnaud, comes the futuristic, action adventure Grand Star, premiering on SPACE Saturdays at 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT, beginning September 22. A series about human conflict, adventure and mystery, Grand Star investigates the psychological behaviour of mankind, the demand for justice and the social class gap.
In the latter part of the 21st century, a cataclysmic explosion on the Moon, which was being used as a nuclear waste dump, turns Earth into a frozen mass of ice. Billions die. However, a few hundred manage to leave Earth and rebuild their lives on a new planet. One century later, their descendents return to Earth to find that there are still primitive survivors clinging to life. The primitive people become dominated by the returning travellers who are technologically superior. These interlopers, also known as the Pointsmen, secure their dictatorial control by building a huge network of electrified railroads and using the survivors for slave labour.
Over the next few centuries, a society and a caste system based upon the railways evolves. People live on trains, shop on trains, and work on trains. They are told that the Sun never existed. In this environment Cal (Canadian actor Tyler Johnston), the 15-year-old son of a famed glaciologist, begins to suspect that there is more to the world than ice. He wants to know the origin of the Ice Age and wants to confirm rumours of the Sun's existence. Joining Cal on his quest are his two friends Kurt, who is from the technologically superior echelon, and
Suki, a fiercely independent and defiant train orphan (played by Canadian actors Kyle Labine and Tammy Hui). Together, looking beyond their different social classes, they search for the answers that can save the future of mankind.
Season one consists of 26 half-hour episodes that were shot in France. Grand Star is produced by Montreal production companies Carpediem Film & TV and Galafilm, in association with SPACE.
