Corus Entertainment’s CMT announced highlights from its 2007 fall schedule. As the home of the best in music and family entertainment, this fall CMT features a lineup of new series, new episodes of returning favourites and special programming events.
“This fall’s schedule reflects on our viewers’ ongoing interest in fan-fueled entertainment,” said Ted Ellis, Director of Programming, CMT. “We’ve got the final season of Reba in our Saturday night comedy block, the country rock sounds of crossover talents Bon Jovi, Reba and Kelly Clarkson featured among our special presentations and a slate of programs that offer a unique spin on the reality genre. And with more rich, interactive opportunities planned for our audiences this year, CMT will continue to build on its reputation as an engaged community for viewers with shared interests and passions.”
In September, weekends get the big event treatment with specials that include CMT Crossroads: Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire on Saturday, September 15 at 8 p.m., which pairs America’s first Idol and a country music icon, creating an electrifying combined performance. Sunday, September 23 features an evening of back-to-back Shania Twain programs culminating in the special Shania: A Life in Eight Albums at 8 p.m. On Saturday, September 29 at 9 p.m. CMT airs a 90-minute session of Bon Jovi: Unplugged followed by a one-on-one interview with Bon Jovi and CMT’s Elissa Lansdell.
CMT’s new series Nashville is an hour-long docu-drama set in the biggest small town in America, chronicling the talent, power, drive, love and hope that make that city burn bright. From the makers of the hit series Laguna Beach and The Hills, and featuring a diverse, young cast in a town that can make or break their futures, this series follows the dreamers and dream-makers of the music industry, as well as those trying to make their mark in Nashville's big entertainment business and high society. Nashville premieres Sunday, September 16 at 9 p.m.
Hidden Canadian talents are front and centre in CMT’s newest original production Karaoke Star premiering Wednesday, September 5 at 11 p.m. Auditions take place in six cities across Canada, with viewers and judges, CMT’s Beverley Mahood and Casey Clarke, voting to name the first-ever Karaoke Star and winner of a $10,000 cash prize. This eight-episode series is hosted by CMT’s Paul McGuire.
It’s all drama and determination in Cheerleader Nation, a new series coming to CMT straight from Lexington, Kentucky. This hour-long eight episode series premieres Wednesday, October 3 at 8 p.m. and tells the story of the Dunbar High School cheerleading squad, who smile and struggle through the physical exhaustion, drama and parental pressure they endure to defend their national title.
The exclusive return of the sixth and last season of the top-rated program, Reba kicks off CMT’s Saturday night comedy block on Saturday, October 6 at 9 p.m. With her usual feistiness and grit, Reba leads her family through the struggles and successes that every family knows, from smoothing a rocky marriage to chasing a dream career. Popular series Hope and Faith, Roseanne and Married with Children return with Reba this fall to round out a two-hour comedy block that airs in prime time every Monday to Friday night.
Also coming this fall, CMT audiences can get their gossip fix on-air and online with the new weekly half-hour video blog, CMT 30. Dishing on everything from Faith Hill’s favourite shoes to the break-up and make-up stories of country music celebs, the scoops begin Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The celebrity watching doesn’t stop there, as CMT airs The 41st Annual CMA Awards live from Nashville, Wednesday, November 7 at 8 p.m. This is country music’s biggest night as the Country Music Association honours the stellar performers, producers and songwriters that bring heartland music to the world. Stars like Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts are just a few of the stars who have rocked the CMA stage. The pre-show red carpet party starts at 6 p.m.
Season two of The Road Hammers kicks off with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, September 11 at 10 p.m. An eight-part unscripted series directed by Jason Priestley, the series follows the band as they try to make it in the U.S. after hammering the country charts in Canada with their debut album. CMT also brings back new episodes of popular music-themed series, including Totally, Live at Revival and Chevy Top 20.
