TSN Announces 2007/08 NHL National Broadcast Package
Posted on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 - 02:58 PM
TSN

Coming off one of its most successful NHL campaigns last year, TSN today unveiled its 70-game NHL on TSN national broadcast package for the 2007/08 regular season, highlighted by increased coverage of the six Canadian clubs.

TSN will televise 40 regular season games featuring Canadian teams, up from 36 last season, while three-quarters of TSN's weekly Wednesday Night Hockey games involve a Canadian club. The NHL on TSN schedule also includes three all-Canadian match-ups, the North American opening night tilt between two Canadian clubs, and a minimum of five games for each of the six Canadian teams.

With more than half the telecasts airing in High Definition, combined with post-season coverage of the first three rounds of the Stanley CupÒ Playoffs, TSN's announcement today reinforces that Hockey Lives Here!

NHL on TSN coverage gets underway on October 3 - first night of the season in North America - with the battle of Ontario featuring Ottawa @ Toronto. TSN's additional two all-Canadian match-ups are Edmonton @ Vancouver on November 14 and Montreal @ Toronto on November 27.

TSN enjoyed one of its most successful NHL broadcast seasons ever last year, which saw Playoff audiences increase 11 per cent throughout the first three rounds, while the regular season was the network's second-most watched NHL campaign in 11 years. In addition, two NHL on TSN broadcasts last year cracked the network's Top 10 list of most watched NHL games, including the season opener featuring Ottawa @ Toronto with 1.33 million viewers.

Additional highlights of the 2007/08 NHL on TSN schedule include:

* 8 doubleheaders
* 6 Original Six match-ups
* 4 'flexible schedule' games, allowing TSN to televise the best possible match-ups
* 13 games featuring last season's Hart-Ross-Pearson trophies winner Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Montreal Canadiens headline the NHL on TSN Canadian broadcast schedule with 13 games, followed by seven Toronto games, six match-ups each for Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton, and five games for Vancouver. TSN will also televise additional Maple Leafs regional games this season, with the schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.

Augmenting TSN's coverage, NHL Network will air 40 live NHL games during the 2007/08 regular season, including a 'Game-of-the-Week' match-up and the popular 'Fan Favourite' game, giving viewers the opportunity to choose which games they want to watch. In addition, NHL Network will televise 12 pre-season games, while the network's signature show, NHL On The Fly, returns nightly from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET, giving hockey fans live look-ins to NHL games all across the league.
