NEW ORIGINAL SPECIALS:
"Bump & Grind: The Making Of A Burlesque Diva"
Every year, the world’s wildest burlesque dancers gather in Las Vegas for a 'Bump & Grind' show-down, but only one walks away with the title of Miss Exotic World. In this hour-long documentary, we follow four fabulous and sexy sirens from their hometowns to the neon-lit Sin City strip at the jaw-dropping competition known as “The Academy Awards of Burlesque”. Once considered a lost art, burlesque is back in a big way as more and more women of the 21st Century dig into this retro-sexual parallel universe of pop art seduction. "Bump & Grind" documents the Burlesque revival on its home turf, and introduces the scene’s most unique characters.
"Beyond Carnival: Sex In Brazil"
Brazil is known all over the world for its beautiful bodies, outrageous celebrations and open sexuality. A place where conservative traditions and modern excesses collide, allows for an ever-changing landscape of sexuality. "Beyond Carnival: Sex In Brazil" is a one-hour special that gets behind the stereotypes and reveals the complex relationships of Brazilians vs. sex and sexuality. With a progressive view on HIV prevention, prostitution, as well as transgenderism, Brazil is home to an array of fascinating characters whose lives embrace sexual diversity. Told through the eyes and hearts of some of the fascinating people who live and work in the country, are stories that include: a woman who creates condom couture to spur talk about AIDS, a fashion house run by prostitutes who demand respect for their work, an ex-pimp who now runs a hospice for HIV+ transvestites and a sex worker who won the right for prostitutes to retire with a pension.
"X - A People's History"
"X – A People’s History" is a decade-by-decade capsule outlining the history of sex in the popular imagination of North America since 1950. This one-hour special is a fast-moving look at a half-century’s worth of shifting attitudes about beauty, immorality, love and lust, as it was represented by the sexual icons of the 50’s, the 60’s, the 70’s, the 80’s, the 90’s and beyond. Told with an emphasis on great characters and individuals who shaped our vision of what’s right and what’s wrong, what’s hot and what’s not, every episode introduces a dizzying array of pioneers, prudes, idealists, artists, sex workers, scholars, fetishists and freethinkers. "X – A People’s History" traces the evolution of our culture’s beliefs over fifty years, as generation after generation develops its own sensibility about beauty, gender, taboo, queerness, pornography, sex work and other common threads. Through the mirror of the past, we get to see our own values and ’kinks’ more clearly.
"Sex Wars: Gender in the Age of Representation"
From infancy, our culture teaches what it means to be a boy or a girl. From the colour of our clothes to the advertisements we see, we are influenced by a barrage of messages telling us who we should be in order to conform to our gender. Are these media representations reflections of how we actually are? Or are they exaggerations presented in order to preserve a rigid set of values that stress the differences between the sexes? "Sex Wars" is a one-hour documentary special, which looks at the reasons why sexual stereotypes in media prevail, even as society seemingly becomes more egalitarian. It also examines the effects sexual stereotypes have on our relationships with each other. Featuring prominent media theorists and writers, including Thomas DeZengotita, Douglas Rushkoff, Jessica Benjamin and Camille Paglia, "Sex Wars" examines the paradoxical relationship between media and sexual identity.
