SunTV unveils its fall schedule
Posted on Thursday, June 14, 2007 - 03:09 PM
SunTV

SUN TV unveiled last tuesday their Fall 2007 schedule with 12 hours of US Network simulcasts per week, new shows and popular favorites, as well as a slate of Canadian music specials, award shows, and local productions that make SUN TV “Fun To Watch”.

“We are building on our success and bringing new shows that strengthen our programming strategy to deliver great programming to our viewers” said Don Gaudet, GM Programming.

Carrying on with the successes of last season, returning shows include “60 Minutes”, “48 Hours Mystery”, “Wife Swap”, “Girlfriends”, “The Game” and one of the funniest shows on TV , “Scrubs” in strip.

New to SUN TV’s prime time this Fall, are proven performers “Dateline NBC”, “One Tree Hill”, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (the first five years, hosted by Bob Saget).

New U.S. network shows:

“Nashville”
From the creative minds behind the hit series “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” comes a high stakes, high drama docu-soap set in “the biggest small town in America”. The show focuses on the dreamers and dream-makers in the country
music industry. Behind every song there’s a story waiting to be told, and there are many such stories in Nashville.

“Aliens In America”
Justin Tolchuk (Dan Byrd) is a sensitive, lanky 16 year old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin. When his well-meaning mom, Franny (Amy Pietz) signs up for the school’s international exchange student program, she pictures being assigned an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. Instead, the Tolchuks’ exchange student turns out to be Raja Mushariff (Adhir Kalyan), a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim.

Despite the cultural differences, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school.

Something for everyone in Daytime Afternoons on SUN TV will showcase original heroes, with classic shows “Wonder Woman”, “The Incredible Hulk”, and Canadian classic “My Secret Identity”, starring Jerry O’Connell.

Another addition to the daytime schedule is “The Price Is Right” in simulcast (CBS), now in its 35th season, the longest running game show in television history. With a fresh new host replacing Bob Barker, this show promises to attract new audiences while continuing to entertain its loyal viewers for years to come.

Established Specials and Award Shows Some of the best Canadian and International award shows will air exclusively on SUN TV’s schedule next season as well. The 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, The NAACP Image Awards, and the Canadian Music Week Indie Awards will bring excitement to the winter 2008 schedule.

Local In House Productions:
Informational, provocative, and always entertaining local in-house productions continue to thrive at SUN TV, produced with their convergence partners at SUN Media. After a year on air, “Canoe Live” digs into the day’s events with analysis, debate and commentary with a point of view. “The Casino Rama Grill Room” continues to deliver daily, fast-paced, high-energy talk about sports, featuring irreverent opinion from credible, connected panelists. And every weekend “Inside Jam!” serves up a slick, smart and funny roundup from the world of entertainment, shining the spotlight on the biggest stars in Hollywood and Hollywood North.

Joining the always upbeat and fun roster of hosts which includes Janette Luu, Gareth Wheeler, David J. Roberts, SUN TV is proud to welcome Tara Slone, a Juno nominee and finalist on Rock Star: INXS, as the latest addition to the team. Fresh off a tour to promote her latest album “Just Look Pretty and Sing”, Tara will be co-hosting Inside Jam with David J. and she will be the face of entertainment on Canoe Live.

The sports department has been bolstered by the addition of producer and NFL analyst Matt Cauz, who comes to SUN TV after seven years with “Off The Record”. Matt is a familiar face for viewers, having appeared regularly on the “Casino Rama Grill Room” and “Canoe Live”.

“SUN TV’s ability to attract such supremely talented and seasoned pros speaks volumes about our production team, which is second to none in the city. We bring entertainment and information to viewers with accuracy and integrity. The entire production team at SUN TV takes pride in our programs and we are happy when we connect with the audience as these shows have,” says Paul Schmidt, Manager In-House Productions.

Independent Canadian Productions:
Independent producers recognize SUN TV as a place to turn project concepts into actual productions, and have a voice for creative input. The popular food and lifestyle show “Street Eats” produced by Caterpillar Productions and S&S, returns for a third season, and the second season of Rez Bluez, produced by Freedom Productions will air in January. Also back for another season is “The DVD Show” produced by Calgary’s Pyramid Productions.

New independent productions include:
