| Bravo! Announces its Fall 2007 Programming Highlights |

Bravo! is pleased to announce its fall 2007 schedule preview. From Joni Mitchell and the Alberta Ballet’s highly anticipated The Fiddle and The Drum; to Kombat Opera Presents (a series of hilarious operatic interpretations of The Apprentice and Wife Swap); to the new Murdoch Mysteries series, to all-new episodes of Inside the Actors Studio – Bravo!'s fall season has something for every creative taste.

APPOINTMENT WITH BRAVO!
Bravo! is a sojourn in the television universe where viewers make a regular APPOINTMENT WITH THE ARTS – and keep it. Each night on Bravo! a different arts genre is explored, featuring an eclectic mix of programs that are entertaining and inspiring: dance, music, drama, literature, cinema, great performers and visuals arts. Whether it’s a classic opera, or James Blunt performing on the Gemini award-winning Live at the Rehearsal Hall series, or blockbuster films on Sunday nights, Bravo! gives viewers an opportunity for thought-provoking and enriching experiences.
MONDAY – APPOINTMENT WITH DANCE
Appointment With Dance showcases the art form, from Irish dancing to modern works. Viewers can watch a classic ballet, or take in a program featuring their favourite dance stars both past and present.
THE FIDDLE AND THE DRUM
World Television Premiere
Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell collaborated with Alberta Ballet's artistic director Jean Grand-Maître to create The Fiddle and The Drum, a ballet set to Mitchell’s music and performed before projections of her artwork. This one-hour dance, music and visual arts performance special, produced by Joe Media Group in association with Bravo!, is a reflection of Mitchell’s life-long concerns about environmental neglect and the warring nature of mankind.
CHRISTOPHER HOUSE: AHEAD OF THE CURVE
World Television Premiere
A one-hour documentary about Christopher House, one of Canada's beloved modern dance maestros and the artistic director of the popular and internationally acclaimed Toronto Dance Theatre. This intimate exploration of the art of choreography reveals the detailed processes House brings to his work, and is a story of an artist and his enduring search for knowledge and inspiration. A film by Rosemary House, Christopher’s sister, in association with Bravo!.
DANCING WITH SPIRIT
World Television Premiere
Directed by Byron McKim (Gemini award-winning Quest), this six-part half-hour dance series profiles aboriginal dancers from across Canada. The series presents a rare glimpse into native mythology, combining story with traditional dance, music and landscape, and blending it with modern interpretive dance to create a visually emotional program. Produced in association with Bravo!.
TUESDAY – APPOINTMENT WITH MUSIC
Appointment With Music showcases the musical styles of classic big band swingers to contemporary pop musicians. Take a front row seat at great concerts, explore the life of your favourite artist in a biographical film or documentary, or watch your favourite movie musical.
ROAD TO BALEYA
World Television Premiere
This one-hour documentary by award-winning filmmaker Bay Weyman follows a group of Canadian musicians who journey to Mali, West Africa, to record local musicians. Equipped with a portable sound recording facility to make quality recordings available to the African musicians, they embark on a remarkable journey that takes them from the dusty streets of Bamako, the capital, to the remote villages of the rugged south-west hill country. In the process, the documentary examines issues of basic education, private sector development, communication and music as a catalyst for human rights, democracy and good governance. Produced in association with Bravo!.
LONG JOHN BALDRY: A LIFE IN BLUES
World Television Premiere
The life and legacy of guitarist and singer Long John Baldry is examined in this one-hour documentary, produced in association with Bravo!. Baldry played a key role in the growth of the British rhythm and blues movement, and led bands in the mid-1960s that featured Rod Stewart and Elton John, both of whom are interviewed in the documentary. In the ‘80s, Baldry emigrated to Canada, living first in Toronto and then in Vancouver, where he died in 2005.
SOUNDS LIKE MOTOWN
World Television Premiere
Directed by Barbara Hager, this one-hour documentary follows Victoria, B.C. high school kids performing with Motown great, Martha Reeves. Produced in association with Bravo!, the program showcases the dreams and aspirations of these talented young musicians who share a passion for a music style that was popular at least 30 years before they were born.
HEART BEAT: CARIBBEAN MUSICIANS AND COMPOSERS IN CANADA
World Television Premiere
A 13-part half-hour music series that explores the various forms of music from the Caribbean. Some of Canada's most dynamic musical creators showcased in the series include: master drummer Muhtadi; world-beat band Kobo Town; jazz fusion collective CaneFire; Juno award-winning trumpeter Nick "Brownman" Ali; steel pannist and cultural activist Ian Jones; soca sensation Anselm Douglas; and Canada's still unbeaten Calypso Queen, Macomere Fifi. MURDOCH MYSTERIES

Murdoch Mysteries builds on the success of the highly-rated Detective Murdoch Mysteries made-for-television movies adapted from Maureen Jennings’ bestselling mystery novels. The series, set in 1895 Toronto, combines compelling Victorian tales of murder with the fast-paced, visually-intriguing styles of today’s leading crime series. Produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with CHUM Television, the series stars Yannick Bisson (Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye.) and Helene Joy.
JOHN NEVILLE
World Television Premiere
British-born actor John Neville moved to Canada in 1972, where he continued his acting career in addition to being the artistic director of several theatre companies: Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre, (1973-78), Halifax’s Neptune Theatre (1978-83), and the Stratford Festival (1985-89). This one-hour documentary is produced by Ari Cohen in association with Bravo!.

PEGGY AND PEN: THE LIFE AND LITERATURE OF MARGARET ATWOOD

This one-hour documentary, produced by Joel Gordon in association with Bravo!, frames the many faces of Margaret Atwood into a layered portrait that is rarely revealed to the public. This look at the internationally best-selling writer features interviews with Atwood’s former boyfriends, family members and close friends, as well as television clips of the notoriously uncooperative author.
A PROMISE TO THE DEAD: THE EXILE JOURNEY OF ARIEL DORFMAN

An exploration of exile, memory, longing and democracy, as seen through the experiences of the world-renowned writer, Ariel Dorfman. Author of numerous works of fiction, plays and essays in Spanish and English, Dorfman's books (including Death and the Maiden and Last Waltz in Santiago) have been translated into over 30 languages. Together with his teenaged sister and a horde of orphans, a young man lives under the watchful eye of his tyrannical mother and secretive father in a lighthouse which also doubles as an orphanage. When new parents notice mysterious head wounds on the children they adopted from the orphanage, an investigation is launched that reveals horrendous family secrets. This semi-autobiographical silent film, written and directed by Guy Maddin, premiered theatrically at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival accompanied by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, several Foley artists and a narrator.
