Court TV Canada to broadcast Steven Truscott Appeal
Posted on Monday, January 29, 2007 - 02:42 PM
Court TV Canada

For the first time ever, Court TV Canada will provide live coverage from inside a Canadian courtroom. Starting Wednesday, January 31st Court TV Canada will interrupt regular trial coverage throughout the day to broadcast highlights from the Steven Truscott appeal live from the Ontario Court of Appeal with regular on-location reports and up-to-the minute analysis from the CP24 Newsroom. These updates will simulcast on CP24.

In 1959, 14-year-old Steven Truscott was convicted for the sex-slaying of 12-year-old school-mate Lynn Harper at an airforce base in southwestern Ontario. Truscott was sentenced to hang, but the sentence was later commuted to life in prison. He was released on parole after serving 10 years. But his conviction has been dogged by doubts and controversy. The appeal court could uphold or set aside Truscott’s conviction, order a new trial or acquit him.

“This case has been the subject of public discussion for decades, and Court TV Canada is proud to provide Canadians with access to this landmark event,” says Paul Gratton, Vice President Entertainment and Specialty Channels, CHUM Television.

“We continue to provide Canadians with up-to-the minute live trial coverage of the most newsworthy legal events of our time,” says Marcia Martin, Vice President Production, CHUM Television. “Throughout the day Court TV Canada’s Sue Sgambati and Lorne Honickman will provide live commentary and analysis as the appeal unfolds.”

Trial Coverage airs weekdays 9:00am to 6:00pm ET / 7:00am to 4:00pm MT

Trial coverage, the cornerstone of Court TV Canada’s daytime programming, covers the world’s most newsworthy and controversial legal proceedings, delivering powerful, real-life drama as it opens the modern courtroom to public scrutiny.
