Biography Channel

The Biography Channel announced it will salute the 75th Anniversary of the Academy Awards* with 40 hours of previous and potential award-winner's biographies. Beginning on Friday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and ending just in time for the start of the Oscar* telecast on Sunday, March 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, The Biography Channel will air biographies of past and possible 2003 Oscar winners including Roman Polanski, Nicolas Cage, Paul Newman, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

The Biography Channel is also launching "Match the Trivia with the Talent" - an interactive audience quiz on air and online at www.thebiographychannel.ca. "Match the Trivia with the Talent" challenges viewers to see how Oscar savvy they really are and to see what kind of information they've learned about their favourite Oscar winners through The Biography Channel programming. Viewers can test their Oscar knowledge and answer questions such as, Nicolas Cage is nominated this year for his role in Adaptation. When was the last time Nicolas Cage won an Oscar and what for film?

Programming Highlights
Bob Fosse, A look at the career of the legendary choreographer and director who took home the Best Director Oscar in 1973 for "Cabaret", and was nominated in 1975 for "Lenny" and again in 1980 for "All that Jazz". He was the Co-Author, Original Director, and Choreographer of the Broadway hit musical "Chicago", but behind the scenes, Fosse was a tortured, addictive genius who had a grim fascination with death. Sunday, March 23, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m. ET

Roman Polanski, Nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture for "The Pianist" at this years Academy Awards, Polanski is a recognized innovator in his industry. With his parents in Nazi concentration camps, where his mother died, young Roman fled the Polish ghetto and took up acting and directing before moving to the U.S. Clips from his work including "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown", coverage of wife Sharon Tate's murder, and his guilty plea to unlawful sex reveal the complex man and artist. Sunday, March 23, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. ET

Nicolas Cage, Profile of the actor known for his off-beat personality and independent spirit. Cage went from volatile outsider to box-office star in "Moonstruck" and "Leaving Las Vegas", for which he won the 1995 Best Actor Oscar. Cage is currently nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in "Adaptation" at this years Academy Awards. Sunday, March 23, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET

Paul Newman, Profile of the legendary actor and philanthropist. Nominated for eight Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, including a win for "The Colour of Money" in 1987, and a nomination this year for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for "Road to Perdition". From his early days on Broadway, in live TV drama during its Golden Age, and most notably in Hollywood blockbuster films, Newman's striking good looks and passionate intensity came to define the American leading man. Tom Hanks, A two-time Oscar winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role, his name is associated with some of Hollywood's biggest blockbuster movies such as "Philadelphia", "Forest Gump", "Cast Away" and "Catch Me If You Can". Biography profiles Tom Hanks from his early beginnings as a movie actor to one of Hollywood's most sought-after talents, earning him comparisons with screen legends of the past such as Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper. Steven Spielberg, Has been nominated for 7 Academy Awards winning Best Director in 1999 for "Saving Private Ryan" and again in 1994 for Best Director and Best Picture for "Schindler's List".
