The Fight Network TM North America’s first and only twenty-four (24) hour combatant sports and entertainment channel announced today that it has acquired the exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to Versus’s “Fight Night” boxing series. Versus is the new name of the American network, OLN.
“Fight Night” is a twice monthly night of boxing action - promoted exclusively by Bob Arum’s Top Rank - featuring the best in today’s rising superstars of boxing, as well as full retrospectives of classic battles from the past, featuring greats like Ali, Frazier, Foreman, and Duran.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to showcase top-notch programming like Versus’s “Fight Night” to our audience here in Canada,” said Brian Sobie, VP of Programming for The Fight Network.
“It’s so rare to be able to feature terrific young fighters in compelling match ups, and pristine classic footage from the past in one offering. We’re very excited about this deal.”
VERSUS’s Fight Night is actually two shows in one package and The Fight Network will be simulcasting both Fight Night Live and Legends of the Ring live at 9:00 PM Eastern every Thursday night beginning September 28th.
“Fight Night” Live, hosted by seasoned play-by-play man Bob Papa, and color commentator Wallace Matthews, features today’s top fighters – like Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Villoria, Kid Diamond, and Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez - in tough, compelling live match-ups.
“Fight Night”: Top Rank's Legends of the Ring, hosted by Michael Buffer, gives fight fans the chance to enjoy classic battles, and hidden gems, from Top Rank’s vast fight archive.
Buried treasures such as Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier II, Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton I, Roberto Duran vs. Davey Moore, and George Foreman vs. Tommy Morrison, are finally unearthed for fight fans to savor and marvel at once again.
“Fight Night is really a unique idea in that it offers fight fans of every stripe exactly what they want every month. Whether it’s a look at the future movers and shakers in the sport, or the legends that made boxing so great in the first place,” said Victoria Quoss, VP of Programming for Verus.
“And we’re very happy to have a network like The Fight Network on board to bring this great series into the homes of boxing fans across Canada.”
