This fall, Discovery Kids Canada delivers a fresh season of exceptional programming for six-to 12-year-olds that emphasize nature, science and mathematics. New additions to the 2006 Discovery Kids Canada schedule include Cyberchase, the show that combines adventure, mystery and comedy to teach kids about mathematics, and Grossology, an animated series that teaches kids all about the stinky, oozy, downright icky reality of our bodily functions. Returning favourites include Prank Patrol and Popular Mechanics for Kids which, starting this September can be seen six days a week.
GROSSOLOGY
Animation
Who do you call when you need to track down a criminal by his own peculiar odour? Ty and Abby Archer—Field Grossologists—of course. This crime-solving brother and sister team report to the secret government Department of Grossology. Hand-picked by a mysterious Director and assisted by the infamous Lab Rat, these tweens investigate crimes too…icky…for local law enforcement to handle. In this animated series, based on the books by Sylvia Branzei, everything that Ty and Abby deal with is grounded in real science.
Grossology also comes to YTV this fall.
Premieres October 2006.
Produced by Nelvana in association with YTV
Country of origin: Canada
26 X 30 minutes
CYBERCHASE
Animation
Starting in September, Discovery Kids Canada airs the Emmy Award-winning Cyberchase six days a week! Aimed at kids aged eight to 12, Cyberchase features a team of brave, curious kids who use their brain power to outwit the dastardly villain hacker and save cyberspace. Each episode takes the children on an adventure driven by a different mathematical concept; they tackle time in ancient Egyptian tombs, face fractions in Ancient Greece and crack codes in creepy caves. Each episode concludes with a live-action segment called For Real that shows kids how they can use math to solve their everyday problems. Offering much more than mystery, thrills and adventure, Cyberchase motivates kids to understand and apply math concepts.
Airs Monday through Friday at 5 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. beginning September 4.
Produced by Thirteen/WNET New York and Nelvana
Country of origin: U.S.A.
20 X 30 minutes
