Movie Central introduces the 12-part original Showtime series Dexter, starring Michael C. Hall as a homicidal justice-seeker tracking and murdering serial killers, as well as the highly-anticipated fourth season of the HBO series The Wire, both of which are also available on Movie Central HD and Movie Central On Demand. The 2006-2007 season also sees new seasons of HBO favourites The Sopranos (final season); Entourage, Rome, and Big Love. DEXTER - A Showtime Original Series Drama Orphaned at the age of four and harbouring a traumatic secret, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is adopted by a police officer who recognizes his homicidal tendencies and taught him to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way – by killing those heinous perpetrators that are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being. Dexter is based on the compelling novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, a South Florida native. Premieres October 1. This fall, the highly acclaimed series returns for its fourth season with 12 new episodes. The first season looked at the national drug war through the microcosm of a West Baltimore housing project, and the second season focused on a longshoremen's union and its struggle to survive. In its third season, the drama developed its portrait of a fictional Baltimore by exploring the place of the political leadership in addressing a city's problems. With the Barksdale investigation concluded, the fourth season of The Wire will expand its focus to include a look at the role of the educational system in an urban environment. Angel (Jonan Everett), a high school senior in Brooklyn, is the kind of inner-city kid the system would flag as a “delinquent.” When he is kicked out of his home on the heels of a heated argument with his father, Angel turns to his pregnant, thirty-something counselor, Nicole (Rachel Griffiths). Coming to grips with how her own life and identity will change after her child's birth, Nicole still warmly accepts the troubled boy into her home until the birth of her baby. But as Angel slides into familiar self-defeating patterns that threaten to close doors in his life permanently, their relationship may hit the breaking point. Angel Rodriguez also stars Denis O'Hare and David Zayas. Produced by HBO Country of origin: U.S.A. 1 x 90 minutes THE AFTERMATH (TSUNAMI) – An HBO Original Miniseries Drama Directed by Bharat Nalluri (Spooks, Life on Mars) and produced by Finola Dwyer (The Hamburg Cell) from a script by Abi Morgan (Sex Traffic), Tsunami (working title) is inspired by true accounts on the harrowing aftermath of the tsunami that devastated the Andaman coast of Thailand in December 2004. A tale of personal loss, Tsunami follows a group of characters whose lives are irrevocably transformed by the natural disaster including: a young couple searching for their child, an Englishwoman whose husband and son are missing, an ambitious reporter, a relief worker and an overwhelmed British official are among those whose stories are followed. Based on extensive research and interviews, this drama explores universal questions about how governments, media and aid agencies respond when they are tested by a natural disaster of this scale. This two-part miniseries stars Tim Roth, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Okonedo, Hugh Bonneville, Gina McKee and Toni Collette. Produced by HBO Country of origin: U.S.A. 2 x 60 minutes AFTER INNOCENCE – A Showtime Original Film Drama Directed by Academy Award-nominee Jessica Sanders (Sing!), After Innocence tells the dramatic and compelling story of the exonerated – innocent men wrongfully imprisoned for decades and then released after DNA evidence proved their innocence. The film focuses on the gripping story of seven men (Dennis Maker of Lowell, MA; Calvin Willis of Shreveport, LA; Scott Hornoff of Providence, RI; Wilton Dedge of Cocoa Beach, FL; Vincent Moto of Philadelphia, PA; Nick Yarris of Philadelphia, PA; and Herman Atkins of Los Angeles, CA.) and their emotional journey back into society and efforts to rebuild their lives. While the public views exonerations as success stories – wrongs that have been righted – After Innocence shows that the human toll of wrongful imprisonment can last far longer than the sentences served. The film also raises questions about human rights and society's moral obligation to the innocent and places a spotlight on the flaws in the U.S. criminal justice system that leads to wrongful conviction of the innocent.
